Subject: RE: Obit: Dorothy Elliott (of Barnsley) From: John MacKenzie Date: 25 Jan 24 - 04:10 AM Sad news. I remember seeing them only once at a folk club in Dorking, some 40+ years ago, I also have a recording of them somewhere. RIP indeed. |
Subject: RE: Obit: Dorothy Elliott (of Barnsley) From: Dave the Gnome Date: 25 Jan 24 - 04:14 AM That is sad. I had the "Yorkshire Relish" album for many years. I'll try to find it and play it again in her memory. I remember going into the shop in Whitby and seeing the photos of Derek with many of the cast of "Heartbeat" on the wall. I asked Dorothy who were those people with Derek and she was puzzled at first, then saw the joke and laughed. Condolences to all her loved ones. |
Subject: RE: Obit: Dorothy Elliott (of Barnsley) From: GUEST,Sean O'Shea Date: 25 Jan 24 - 08:36 AM In my view, one of the three really stand out and true voiced women singers of the last fifty plus years. Her voice was hard and harshl and full of character.Chris Coe and her gone within weeks of each other-I won't tempt fate by naming the third. |
Subject: RE: Obit: Dorothy Elliott (of Barnsley) From: Steve Gardham Date: 25 Jan 24 - 10:15 AM That's sad, Ray. The last time I saw them both together all 3 of us went to Noel Dobson's funeral in York. With the sword dance connection at Barnsley I used to see a lot of them in the 60s. Condolences to the family presumably still in Whitby. Gilli still has some jet jewellery made by I think Nadine. |

Subject: RE: 2024 Obit: Dorothy Elliott (of Barnsley) From: Waddon Pete Date: 28 Jan 24 - 10:49 AM I recall booking Derek and Dorothy when I ran my club. We had an excellent night and subsequently a friend from Australia and myself visited them when I took him around the country on a sightseeing trip. Dorothy gave us a lovely home cooked dinner and we were put up in their caravan to spend the night. I have, of course, added Dorothy to the "In Memoriam" thread and send my condolence to all those who know and love her. RIP Dorothy. |

Subject: RE: 2024 Obit: Dorothy Elliott (of Barnsley) From: Herga Kitty Date: 31 Jan 24 - 06:55 AM I've not looked at Mudcat for a few days and am very sorry to read this sad news. I have happy memories of seeing and hearing Dorothy and Derek in London about 50 years ago and more recently in Whitby at the Plough, before it became a music-free zone, and then the Tap and Spile / Station Inn. Deepest sympathies to Melody, Nadine and the family. Kitty |
