Or you could try going to the link provided in Geoff the Duck's "Mudcat Time Warp" thread, back to Oct 13 1999, and see what Mudcat was like before BS and guest flaming were the norm.

We actually discussed music, quite peacefully and peaceably then. Yes, us evil guests who would like it to be that way again--we're the problem.

I would certainly trade the PMs for the old Mudcat any day. But the flame warriors want to keep their playpen the way it is today.

At least now we have a way of showing others the kind of Mudcat forum we want directly.

But, seriously, folks, is there any way to send a PM to several members at the same time? I, for instance, would like to thank all the nice folks that chimed into the Cheer Mrrzy Up thread, without refreshing the thread itself. If I could send a Group Personal Message, I would probably do that sooner than think of 14 individual PMs for the ones I haven't already thanked in some way...

If you wish to say strong words to someone who may have upset you, it would not be usual to do so in a public place. It would not be considered polite to embarrass those watching and listening.

The Mudcat forum is a public place. If the personal messages, that Max has provided, are used you can do all the name-calling you wish and no one else need know.

In the case of a 'guest' causing offence, it is not possible to send a personal message and the best method to deal with this is probably to ignore it.

Just to correct any wrong impression that I may have given. The purpose of this thread was to encourage us to use MAX'S PERSONAL MESSAGES to send personal message to EACH OTHER and NOT TO MAX. I sure he would welcome the odd nice word or two but that was not what I was suggesting.

MAX'S PERSONAL MESSAGES are just one of the great features that our creator has provided, in fact he has provided for our every need. He has created A Garden of Eden, for us here. All he wants us to do is run off and play in it. I'm sure that it is a cause of some frustration to him that at times, all we seem to want to do, is worry about Serpents and Apples.

I've used personal messages and met Brian (Wotcha) Kendall, Susan of DT, Dick Greenhaus, Willie O (yep, free lasagne) Rick Fielding, Peter T, Tony Burns, Michael in Toronto, and it now looks like I am gooing to get my own personal visit from the Sables.

I also owe tapes to Art T and Shambles (someday I'll get a recorder with a built in mic, or better still, a real mic and I'll come through, I promise) and I've TRIED to hook up with folks to go to the FSGW.

Anyway, I like 'em, and I bet you will too.

I highly recommend the Personal Message as a way to win friends and influence people. You can say nice things without being embarassed and you can say less nice things without embarassing the receiver.

They have helped me many times when I just had to say something, but it really wasn't for public consumption. So get rid of that old consumption and post a Personal Message to your favorite Mudcatter.

Sending a personal message is SO EASY!!! Even I, a complete klutz, managed it on my FIRST try! I just went up to the Quick Links Box and found "Send a Personal Message" in the list. I clicked on the box and followed the instructions. It was MARVELOUS!! My husband noticed an immediate difference and all my friends want to know my 'secret' now. Thank you MAX!
