Since Part I of the 'Additions' thread has reached 50 messages, I'm starting Part II so that it will cut down on the download time for a lot of people. If you'd like to read Part I, click here. --------------------------------

The newest additions to the Mudcat Songbook are both by Mbo. In 'The Dark And The Light' , he has adapted a translation of a poem in Irish by Richard Burke, and 'What Did I Do' is one of his family's favorites. Check 'em out!

I've just added 'How Many Folkies Does It Take To Change A Lightbulb' by Amos to the Mudcat Songbook under the Thread Songs category. Well, this has been a Red Letter Day for the Mudcat Songbook!!! It took Amos no time at all to win the First Ever Mudcat Song Challenge with 'Miz Henley's Revenge', a gem of a song about a fella escaping down a pole to avoid the police! And our own dear Mbo just sent me another one of his beautiful romantic songs, 'Firefall', full of unrequited love . . . ah, youth . . .

Please check out both of these newest additions to the Mudcat Songbook ASAP! You'll be sorry if you don't, I guarantee!

Well, dear, I don't know how to make a maid for a day -- it's like that lightbulb joke, q.v., about pregnant women being different from lightbulbs. Way I see it, you get to be a maid, and then you don't. But most folks I know don't regret the change. :>))Tell you what though; I run a mean vacuum cleaner, wash dishes, can lay tile and put up drywall, and have been known (under severe protest) to do Windows although by preference I choose Unix or OS X. But those are a different color of Jobs altogether. I would gladly be your virtual slave, for a virtual day, to provide you with virtual housecleaning in consideration of your well-earned honor in the virtual contest. Consider it done! It's to the tune of *The Devil Went down to Georgia* The Devil went down to Dingal, he was looking for a soul to steal, a little trip to the side for polkas and slides, He was tired of jigs and reels., Twas a ceili night in the pub's dim light and a man played the fiddle hot!, Well a Kerryman would be easy prey or so the Devil thought., The Devil said back home on Downing St I've been known to play myself.,(and he insincerely bent his arm to drink the young man's health), Says the Devil "You play a fine fiddle lad but if you take from me this cue, 6 counties I hold against your soul cause i think I'm better than you", The boy said my names Padraig, and it might be a sin, but I'll take your bet, you heathen Brit cause I'm the best that's ever been. Paddy you best play lively now, no time to play slow airs. coz Hell's broke loose in Kerry and the devil don't play fair., And if you win your island home will finally be whole, But if you lose the Devil takes your soul. The Devil opened up this case and he said I'll start this show, and the whole world looked the other way as he stepped on Padraig's toe. And he pulled a bit of rosin from a fancy velvet sack, and played a tune so foul it'd curl the hair off of Margaret Thatcher's back. When the Devil finished Padraig "said that's pretty weak old hoss, so sit down in that chair rigt there, let me show who's the boss." Ths is terrific -- a beautiful meeting of old and new, Irish and Georgian!

Here's a small suggestion in the preparing of messages in the Mudcats unique environment. Type the characters "
" (without the quotes) each place where a line should break, twice between complete verses. There are easy ways to do it -- one is to copy the
characters once, so you can paste it as many times as you want to.

Favour request: next time you're slashing HTML code on the Songbook, would you change then name of "Fred Dyer's Bees" to "Wired Bees" for me? I actually have no reason to think Fred Dyer is the opportunist I described in the song, and have no wish to slander him.

Tracking bees on an oscilloscope, and wiring up their little fannies, is a durrrrrty job, but someone has to do it.

As a fellow bodhrán player, I believe our place in the musical food chain is at the TOP! I know we have to take a lot of slagging; but, what would Irish music be without us? I would even hazard a guess that the bodhrán was the *first* true instrument of Celtic culture, being that it probably arose from the winnowing drum. This evening's addition to the Mudcat Songbook is a beautiful ballad from Barry Taylor entitled 'An Emigrant's Daughter,' and tells the true story of the voyage of his Irish ancestors from County Tyrone to Canada in 1842. And being Barry Taylor, he's of course included a midi for the tune. Well done, Barry! Go and have a listen and enjoy.

I see that I have to sit down and write some songs to add into the mudcat songbook, how about in Icelandic?. I've just added a beautiful song by McGrath of Harlow entitled 'Little Cat' to the Mudcat Songbook. It's another true story, about losing something and regaining it again. Please have look at this lovely song by one of the best songwriters on the Mudcat.

Actually, I *finally* received Willie-O's long awaited 'Talking Maple Syrup Blues' this morning, and of course, I couldn't wait to put it in the Mudcat Songbook! It's a song about, well, syruping. So go and take a look and get 'edified' like I did! Willie-O is promising more songs, and I hope he comes through for us.
