Does anyone happen to know the guitar chords for "When the Sun Goes Down Again"? I believe the song is by Carson Robison (or perhaps Vernon Dalhart?), and begins with the lines "I hear the whipporwill a crying, the sun is sinking to rest..." Thanks in advance.

My Dad sings a song he learned from an older brother many years ago. We think it is called "When the Sun Goes Down Again" and it is definitely in the folk style. Here are some of the lyrics:

When the sun goes down again I want to be where I belong I'll be coming around the bend And in my heart there'll be a song It won't take long for me to forget That I ever wanted to roam And unless I miss my guess I'll learn each word of "Home Sweet Home"

Any ideas of who the author is or if it was recorded?

It was also one of my Dad's favorites. It was recorded by Vernon Dalhart and Bill Boyd and his ??? Ramblers. Don't know who wrote it.

WHEN THE SUN GOES DOWN AGAIN

When the sun goes down again I'm gonna be where I belong,
I'll be comin' round the bend and in my heart there'll be a song.
It won't take long to forget that I ever was alone,
And unless I miss my guess I'll learn each word of home sweet home.
When I hear the old dog a-bayin' I'll be at my journey's end.
I can hear the old folks sayin' "welcome home, Oh lost long friend."
I'll throw away my walkin' shoes I never want them on again,
In a little while I will laugh and smile, When the sun goes down again.

I hear the Engineer a-calling, we'll soon be moving along,
I hear the wheels a kind of humming, actually there couldn't be a prettier song.
I hope the Engineer will hurry, and get me there on time,
But I can hardly wait to see that old hometown of mine.

When the sun goes down again I'm gonna lose my heartaches then,
And I'll feel like shouting when my loneliness will end.
I can't help thinking about that sweetheart I left behind,
And until I'm satisfied I'll never get her off my mind.
There's a church just around the corner with a parson old and gray,
And I know that she'll be happy when I take her there some day.
With a little home on the river there my troubles all will end,
In a little while I will laugh and smile, When the sun goes down again.
