Well, as some other 'catter said, "Theme nights are fun, but..." it's nice to have the old place back. The tavern was where I first got hooked on the forum, sucked in by the lure of Big Mick's recipes. So, welcome back to the Mudcat Tavern, hope of folkie fun and fellowship!

Who's pullin' pints here. I need one quick. Had a rehearsal tonight which went well, and on the way home I had a close encounter with the local constabulary. Seems as tho I inadvertently went straight on a left turn arrow, thereby technically running the light. Talk about feeling stupid! As luck would have it, the man behind the badge was a humane fellow and sent me on my way with an admittedly well-deserved scolding and an ample dose of humble pie. Make that two pints - I'm walking home from here.

Hey, keeper, put paddymac's pint on my tab. Anyone who can charm an ossifer into humanity must be a Folkiste Extraordinaire!

Caitrin, when you come back I have a couple of hundred cookies more than I needed -- would you like to distribute them? Delicious they are but my waist doesn't understand my tastebuds anymore!!

It is 3:30 AM in Buenos Aires and we have 24 C degrees - expecting a day of 40 C - please pass me that pint for a bath and another to drink..

Mbo - you claim to be lyricly impaired, and yet do such nice re-writes of standard tunes? I should be so impaired! I'm going to try to talk my group into your Morning has broken.....

Whew! Are my little pinkies tired from transcribing all these wonderful songs you guys are writing lately! Can this tired old Keeper of the Book have a half pint of Guinness (for medicinal purposes only, of course)? And don't tell me it's too early in the morning for it, either. I've been up half the night with a tummy ache and I need something to settle my frayed nerves.

Aaaaahhhhh, that's better. Now I can handle some of your wonderful coffee, MMario. Well, Happy St. Bridget's Day everyone! The scones and jam are on me this morning!

have you ever taken a scone, and v.e.r.y..... s.l.o.w.ly...spread it with the jam, making sure to cover each tender, delicious portion? Then, top it with double-cream, the kind that's so thick and rich you can't pour it? Such a scone has to be savoured, slowly, as it tittalates your tongue, the rich cream, sweet jam and tender scone melting together.....almost entreating you to nibble just a little more....

Annie's scones and Caitrin's cookies
They could satiate a Wookie
They're the sweetest treats what am!
With Kahlua, cream and jam!

Wrap your tongue around this fashion!
And you'll know true Gaelic passion!
They're the best things ever tasted!
Any more than a mouthful's wasted!

Now, dear Annie, don't me modest
You're our own, A Gaelic goddess!
And its you we're dreaming of
When we sing of Irish love

And sweet Caitrin, so retirin'
Mbo finds you so inspiring!
Nothing shakes a folkie's bones
Like Caitrin's cookies and Annie's scones!

(I really do have to get some work done here today..but I am shaking all over )

Now, I want you all to understand that I'm doing this NOT for myself (hahahaha), but for Caitrin's sake --

Amos, give me a title and that one's in the Songbook . . . just because it's the only song that's ever been written about me (not even the dear hubby has done that yet!), that has nothing to do with it (hahaha) -- It's just such a grand tribute to Caitrin's Cookies!! Really, that's why I want it in the Songbook -- No, *really* -- Oh, nevermind . . .

Geez, Aine, I apologize for dese guys drooling all over you. Here's a towel to dry yourself with. I'd offer to help, but yer old one might get a bit annoyed. It would serve him right, though, for never having written you a song. Now, I wouldn't deny Amos the right to name his own song, especially after he bought me that delicious pint, but I suspect when he thinks about it some more he'll come up with something like "The Scones of Aine", or "Sweet Fantasies", or maybe even something more graphic, like "Lapping Curds and Jam From Aine's Scones". Uh oh, here comes the boss...

ok here we go half full or half empty? if one half isn't 1/2 bad and the other can't be 1/2 good, then the portion that Sorcha ate was the better part, provided that with this Scottish dish, that there could be a better part.In this situation I will be more than happy to accept the opinion of the esteemed Sorcha. By accepting said opinion, I would consider myself a hypocrite if I was to try this dish, as Sorcha might take this as an affront to (his/her?) fine judgement. So I hereby take the pledge never to eat haggis, not for reasons of culinary repulsiveness, but as my part of the effort for world peace, as well as peace here on the mudcat forum.

It's the royale,/i> part that gets you confused, Mario -- this here is a Damocracy -- goverment by the Dams. Or the damned, depending on how you spell it.

I can't parsley imagine world peas. But gimme some cafe royale and I'll conjure it up with one jicama imagination. Lettuce now be up and doing!
As for Mick being around, he's been around the pea-patch, and he's more around than he used to be for sure.

I guess it was the talk about scones of stone above, but I just got to wondering: does anyone make a beer/ale equivalent of biscotti, the hard cookies you have to dip in coffee to eat? Someone of you culinary types ought to come up with a hard salty pastry that would be enhanced by dipping in Porters or Guiness or Green Death, and that would enhance the experience of imbibing the heavenly brews. They could be called Mudcat Munchies and sold--at first--via the auction; Muddies would be encouraged to introduce them at their favorite watering holes and they'd be bigger than McDonald's and Max could quit his day job and there would be peace on earth forever and ever, amen.
