This keeps going around in my head today, for no reason I can think of but I get stuck. Can you help with this song?

I'm an educated man, to get more sense within my head I plan-----?

Yes a 'senior moment' I am getting to know them well.

I know I know it but why it is in my head today I have no idea.

It's sort of a one-line interlude thrown in by Doc Watson on "I was Born About Ten Thousand Years Ago." It is/was on Doc's eponymous Vanguard album. It is followed by "I've been on earth so long, and I used to sing a little song while all of those old-timers took their stand." Remember?

And, Shambles, let's pause for a Woo-Woo Moment:

A counselor friend of mine once said that songs that seem to just pop out of our psyches for no apparent reason are often a clue to something that's going on in our inner state. Maybe your mind is trying to send you a message?

I know I kept referring to my once-pending nuptials as "my funeral" and my alleged wedding dress as "my funeral dress." Finally I took the hint and began to question myself as to precisely how badly I really wanted to get married. And the answer came screaming back at me "NOT VERY DAMNED BADLY!!!!!" So, ...

Fer what it's worth.

I think I started this one, I threw the line into the liberal ed thread which I also did not realize (because I was just skimming people's replies in that thread and was seething with my own rant on elementary ed at the time) was about college, duh!!! See what happens when we get mad? We actually can't see straight!

I think I have the chords for it somewhere.

Songs get stuck in my head too and I will share more on that later, busy day.

BTW, at our house we refer to these little episodes of brain blipping/lost info as Oldtimer's Disease, because many of our parishioners seem to have problems some of which eventually get diagnosed as Alzheimer's, so we just adopted that phrase as a way of normalizing the phenomenon without actually going medical over it! I also understand many people call these Brain Farts but I think that's an inaccurate term because it seems more like a vacuum than an emission, unless that would cover my Lib Ed contribution while feeling ranty... yes, that must be what I was smelling, that's a Brain Fart for sure.

I'll check later and see if chords are wanted for "I Was Born...."

At our house we refer to it as Sometimer's Disease. That's where you don't forget quite everything.

Actually, the 'correct' term is CRS which stands for 'Can't Remember Shit'
I know 'cos I'm an expert on the subject (ask Catspaw)

LOL

SOL (screaming)

PWO (Pants-Wetting Opportunity)

We also have a pantomime for this where you "stick" an auger into your forebrain, "plop" the handle onto the auger, "Crank" the handle to permit the rmoval of a core sample, and "Pop" the sample out to be examaines and if necessary placed more effectively. Thus far no one has ever responded to this by providing an implant to fill the gap, but I always have (sniffle) hope....

When the 'helpful' young preacher knocked on the door and asked the oldtimer if he ever wondered why he was here, the old man replied, "Hell, I wonder that every time I go into a room to get something."

DA DAH!!! I remember! I wonder, where Doc got the line from or was just born with it?

Thank you Bud. I loved that record. I used to have it on almost permanent loan from our local public library, when I was in my teens. Seems like it was Ten Thousand Years Ago! Who was "General Hooker" and why was he, "fighting mosquitoes down in Tennessee"?

Rick. As senior moments go, ten thousand years was a VERY senior moment indeed. Maybe I was just feeling ten thousand years old?

Praise. Are you indeed the one resposible for this and if so why can't I remember seeing it? I did not see it in that thread. It just gets worse.

Wyo Woman. What do you think this inner state, message means then?

I am not clever enough to put a link in this thread as I have to copy and paste it but I will post a link to a song for you (from the wonderful Mudcat Songbook), on the next post. It is a view of the situation you describe but from a man's point of view, I'm not too sure he went through with it either? What do you think?

I have two problems with song lyrics:

1) Not being able to get them out of my head when I'm trying to do something entirely unrelated to music.

2) Having them depart abruptly in the middle of a public performance, if my mind wanders for a moment.

There's some kind of a paradox here. Is it just me?

Peter.

Thank you, Midchuck, for helping me realize what to do when I lose my place in song: Stop, and do something completely non-musical, and hope that the next song that pops in will fit wherever I left off! Imagine all the fun non-musical things we could do when this occurs, and with an audience!

But comically folks! (after LOL for a while) Joseph Hooker commanded the Army of the Potomac in the Civil War till after he got beat by Lee at Chancellorsville. Lincoln insulted him into resigning just before Gettysburg, which was probably a Very Good Thing. But he HAD been a good general at a lower level so in late September 1863 after the Union lost the battle of Chickamauga, they shipped about 20,000 men west from the Army of the Potomac to. . . Tennessee, and put Hooker in charge of them. Did a pretty good job too. I have also heard that verse as "to fight the rebels down in Tennessee" which makes more sense, if that is what could expect in such a song.

Oh, Midchuck, I have exactly the same problem. I'm sort of famous (infamous) at work for having a song for every occasion. My mind just adds this running soundtrack all the time and whenever someone says just about anything, it makes me think of a song. However, get me up in front of an audience and lyrics fly, fly away. I'm completely intrigued by the idea of stopping in the middle of a song and doing something non-musical to bring them back. THAT could make for some interesting performances.

And Shamb, I haven't a clue what your psyche might be telling you. I can barely decipher what mine is shouting to me. But maybe you're telling yourself to get more sense, or reminding yourself that you are an educated man, or ... But sometimes these little snippets are like a piece of thread sticking out and if you tug on them, a problem will begin to unravel. You have to just have a friendly conversation with your psyche about what it's tring to say, "Hmm. 'I'm an educated man ...' that's an interesting thing to say. What about that? Can you say more?"

Sounds goofy, but sometimes the most surprising answers come bouncing up at you. And the key is to take what you get, regardless of how "illogical" it seems and keep letting your mind talk -- because minds talk in metaphors and images, usually, not in left-brained, analytical talk, so you have to learn to listen playfully.

(I know, I know. You're all just jealous because you don't hear my voices...)

WW

Shamb, I think there is a conspiracy to convince you that you are different from every one of the rest of us. Keep in mind that just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're not actually out to get you.

Joe Hooker: He was the Yankee general who thought his troops were more likely to stick around camp if the horizontal form of refreshment was made available to them right there. The ladies imported for this purpose became known as "Hooker's girls" or (you guessed it) "hookers." Joe is the pride of Rhode Island, and a larger-than-life statue of him astride his horse stands in a park in the center of Providence, make of that what you will. I am told that Tennesseeans were known as Skeeters because of their talent for harassing maneuvers.

Thank you Bud........(I think?)....Do you really think they are out to get me?.....Do you?

As I said on another thread. In the UK, 'hookers' are large chaps who play rugby.

Thanks again.

Shamb, your observation on rugby hookers in the UK reminds me of the question of the commonality of our languages. Over here in the colonies, "pussy", "knock up", "fag", "rubber" and numerous others are quasi-obscene terms with no connection to their English identities.
