Anyone familiar with a song about Hank Williams that has the two lines in the chorus:

He sang with whisky on his breath

and

His heart broke like a stone.

Heard it sung recently and it has been following me around like a leasant smell. It keeps remnding me of its presence and snatches of the halp-remembered melody tease my fingers and vocal chords.

The line is "He sang with whiskey on his breath/His heart broke like a child."

"Rolling and Rambling (The Death of Hank Williams)" was written by Robin & Linda Williams and Jerome Clark.

Robin & Linda have recorded it a couple of times, most recently on "Devil of a Dream" on Sugar Hill.

THank you Mike & Miller. "His heart broke like a child" - Yes, that makes more sense than "stone". *BG*

Driving home tonight I managed to work out the chorus pretty well on the harmonica but I'm still looking for the words.

I Remembered Most of the song, I was ten at the time, and it is one of those songs you didn't forget at the time. ( Way up in West Virginia, between midnight and dawn. A big Blue Car was traveling, it's wheels hummed a song. The headlights shown out thru the night to light the road so steep, while in the back Hank Williams slept, in a deep and dreamy sleep. They were heading for Ohio, to play a show next day, while thousands there waiting, to him sing and play.)       I won't give you anymore as I don't know if I'm breaking any publishing laws. I hope this helps.

Subject: Lyr Add: HAS ANYBODY HERE SEEN HANK? (Waterboys)
From: Matt_R
Date: 26 Jan 04 - 11:56 PM

Ah, you've forgotten the classic "Has Anybody Here Seen Hank?" by The Waterboys.

I ain't here for to do any business
I got nobody special to thank
I'm trying to find
A friend of mine
Has anybody here seen Hank?

Well he's sure to be wearing a Stetson
He's as long and as thin as a plank
He's got a fistful of charm
And a gun beneath his arm
Has anybody here seen Hank?

Now he ain't in the back of a limo
And he ain't in his bed
He ain't in jail
He ain't out on bail
He ain't getting out of his head

I don't care what he did with his women
I don't care what he did when he drank
I want to hear just one note
From his lonesome old throat
Has anybody here seen Hank?

Has anybody here, has anybody here
has anybody here seen Hank?

Subject: Lyr Add: ROLLIN' AND RAMBLIN' (about Hank Williams
From: Jim Dixon
Date: 30 Sep 07 - 02:35 PM

Lyrics are at several places on the 'net, mainly because Emmylou Harris recorded it.

ROLLIN' AND RAMBLIN'
Robin Williams/Linda Williams/Jerome Clark

Folks in Nashville slammed the door,
Said, "We don't want you anymore.
Find your own way down the road.
Pack your fiddle and your guitar.
Take a train or take a car.
Find someone else to keep you from the cold."

CHORUS: Rollin' and ramblin',
Women loved him half to death.
He sang with whiskey on his breath.
His heart broke like a child's.
Rollin' and ramblin',
The sun has set out on the trail.
The hobos drifted up the rail.
He's taken his last ride.

Oh, he always sang the blues
Like it was all he ever knew.
He didn't sing at all that night.
He was pale and as he dozed.
He didn't know his time had closed,
Slumped in the back seat to the right. CHORUS

So they send him on night train south,
Through the cities and the rural routes,
Just one more place to go.
Ah, the whistle sang the bluest note
Like it came from his own throat,
Moanin' sad and cryin' low. CHORUS

REPEAT LAST 4 LINES OF CHORUS.
