Subject: Mick Moloney: 'The Norwegian Song' From: Punk as Folk Date: 11 Feb 00 - 10:07 PM Could anyone supply me with the lyrics (Norwegian and/or English) for the following song. The song is written by Mick Moloney (under Copyright Control) and the title is "The Norwegian Song". I would prefer both Norwegian AND English. Thank you

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Mick Moloney: 'The Norwegian Song' From: Brendy Date: 11 Feb 00 - 10:53 PM It's called "Vi skal ikke sove" (We won't sleep), and I have it on a cd around here. The words are knocking around here as well, I think. I'll have a look over the weekend. I doubt if the song is in English, or if anyone has ever made a decent attempt at translating it, and I will leave it to greater souls than myself to do it I'll hunt out the Norsk words if I can. Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Mick Moloney: 'The Norwegian Song' From: John Wood Date: 13 Feb 00 - 07:33 PM Vi Skal Ikke Sova Burt Sumarnatta.(Words:Aslaug Låstad Lygre,Tune:Geir Tveitt). This was the first Norwegian song I learned !!! A very beautiful song, but not so easy to translate. Maybe I'll have a go at it if I get a bit more time. Greetings from Norway...John. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Mick Moloney: 'The Norwegian Song' From: Twilight Date: 08 Mar 00 - 04:00 PM If you're wanting a translation that will work on it's own as a song, mine won't be of any use, but if you only want to know what the words mean (then make your own version) here's my attempt of a translation: "We shall not sleep through the summer night" We shall not sleep through the summer night for that, she is far too bright Instead we shall wander together outside under the trees so green under the trees so green Instead we shall wander together outside where the flowers bloom in the field We shall not sleep through the summer night that curls our hair with dew that curls our hair with dew We shall not sleep and miss the scent of cut hay or the grasshopper's song in the field But wander together under pale blue skies Till the birds take flight on their wings Till the birds take flight on their wings And feel that we are a part of the Earth of the wind and the pale white cloud And know that we shall be together Right till the dawn of day Right Till the dawn of day I know that wasn't brilliant, but at least it gives you the general gist of what is being sung. I now challenge you (or anyone else to make a "real" song of it :)! Twylight.. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Mick Moloney: 'The Norwegian Song' From: Brendy Date: 08 Mar 00 - 08:12 PM Interesting proposition there, Twylight. I attempted a translation of Jan Eggum's 'Kor er alle helter enn?' (spelling's probably wrong - Ny Norsk can be difficult!!), but I got stuck trying to reconcile the 'kvitt eller dobbelt' pun, and good old 'Onkel Lauritz' I found hard to reproduce in recognisable English. I haven't had a go at the song in a good while. I'm a bit busy at the minute, but I certainly will give it a go at some stage. Any idea who wrote it?. It sounds from the west. B. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Mick Moloney: 'The Norwegian Song' From: Brendy Date: 08 Mar 00 - 08:48 PM Well obviously I know who wrote it; John has credited him further up, but what I meant to ask was: Who is he? B. |
