Subject: Help! Song from Newfoundland..perhaps? From: Rick Fielding Date: 13 Feb 00 - 09:59 PM Hi. Sorry I couldn't put the title up there, but my friend who's trying to piece together this fragment, doesn't know it. Here's what he gave me.
The sun is shining somewhere, this I know (this is know) Anyone got any ideas? Thanks. Rick |
Subject: RE: Help! Song from Newfoundland..perhaps? From: Amos Date: 13 Feb 00 - 10:06 PM Expect that's "This I know (this I know)" and I know I have heard that chorus before but it doesn't come to the top of the stack yet...oh, it's from a different song altogether (Should Have Loved You Better). Nope...sorry, Rick |
Subject: RE: Help! Song from Newfoundland..perhaps? From: Willie-O Date: 14 Feb 00 - 09:02 AM Rick, I don't think a song about sunshine is likely to be from Newfoundland. They're all craggy rocks, thundering seas and murky fog.... W-O |
Subject: RE: Help! Song from Newfoundland..perhaps? From: Rick Fielding Date: 14 Feb 00 - 01:47 PM Yah Willie. My friend's grandfather was from Newfoundland but he could just as easily have been singing something that he heard on the radio. I'm still hoping though. Rick |
Subject: RE: Help! Song from Newfoundland..perhaps? From: Pete Peterson Date: 14 Feb 00 - 09:50 PM As Amos almost said, the "this I know, this I know" is the internal chorus of Tom Paxton's "last thing on my mind" . Good phrase probably used in other songs. I disagree with Willie-O; I think "the sun is shining somewhere, this I know, this I know" would be a very reasonable thing for a Newfie to sing. |
Subject: RE: Help! Song from Newfoundland..perhaps? From: Amos Date: 14 Feb 00 - 11:23 PM Geeze -- the greatest collection of fokkin folkies in the Western hemisphere and we can't come up with a line for Rich himself. Dang!! 'S a shame, is what.. . A |

Subject: RE: Help! Song from Newfoundland..perhaps? From: 1979 Date: 15 Feb 00 - 11:38 AM Did you know Pete Peterson that the thread used the word Newfoundland and not NEWFIELAND! It would be appreciated if you discontined to use that the derogatry term in the cafe please!!!!!!!! |
Subject: RE: Help! Song from Newfoundland..perhaps? From: John Nolan Date: 15 Feb 00 - 09:23 PM My dear 1979: I have relatives living in Conception Harbour, Admiral's Beach, Mt. Carmel, St. Catherine's, St. John's and Gander, to name but a few. Most of my folks were born there, including my great-grand parents, grand-parents and father. I have often heard them refer to themselves as Newfies, and they are/were secure enough to shrug it off when some joker precedes this word with "goofy." I don't think Mr. Peterson made a faux pas, unintentional or otherwise. Relax! John Nolan (A Jock!) |
Subject: RE: Help! Song from Newfoundland..perhaps? From: Amos Date: 15 Feb 00 - 09:24 PM DO any of themknow the song Rick is seeking here? A |
Subject: RE: Help! Song from Newfoundland..perhaps? From: Rick Fielding Date: 15 Feb 00 - 09:34 PM Thanks Amos Rick |
Subject: RE: Help! Song from Newfoundland..perhaps? From: John Nolan Date: 15 Feb 00 - 10:24 PM It sounds more like a Kellogg's Corn Flakes jingle than a Newfoundland song, if you want my twa bawbee's worth. |
Subject: RE: Help! Song from Newfoundland..perhaps? From: Metchosin Date: 16 Feb 00 - 01:22 AM That is, of course, if the sunshine he's carrying, isn't "Screech". |
