Subject: Text Capture and Return Chars?
From: Bo

I usually type my stuff offline, capture it and dump it into the submit box when I want to send it in. When I do this invariably CR's (Carriage Returns) in word dissapear in my final message.

If I go through the text and put an extra CR. after each line my message is double spaced and obnoxiously long.

Is there anyone out there who has solved this problem elegantly and will they share their brilliance ????

bo

Bo.....I double-CR between verses only, then put a
(that's a BR) after all but the last line of the verse.
That way, the lines come out single-spaced.

To a chorus, use a 'UL' at the beginning and a '/UL' at the end. To view the HTML sample below, use a View Document Source, or whatever your browser supports.

I'm still not sure, though, that Dick doesn't prefer we didn't do it.......Tiger

SAMPLE SONG

Let me sing you line one,
And let me sing you line two,
Then after three, we're done.

    CHORUS
Oh, this must be the shortest song
    You ever saw,
But one I wish was shorter
Is "Sippin' Cider Through A Straw."

Now, my second verses
Often end abruptly.
Guess I'm not much of a writer,
Yetly.

    CHORUS

Great song!

Did you write it?

Does it have a tune?

I'm in favor of anything that makes things easier to read (and write).

Well, I tried the <UL> and <LI> combo Peter suggested in an earlier thread on tabs, and sure enough, got the bullets in front of each item in my "list" (the chorus of the song) So I'll try it here without the "LI" instruction and see what happens...

Here's a woeful song of love
In HTML times
It's not the best that I could do
But I'll try to make it rhyme.

I am an indented serving girl
    Without a line return
I served this verse up to my love
But my letters he did spurn.

So now to end and conclude my song
It's sounding much too fake
I'll go and get another love
And my heart will nomore <BR>...

Dear LaMarca, Yes, sorry about the overcomplications. The bodyquote one does work too. I like the indented serving girl. I assume that she had some form of twisting disease that left her with an unordered list. It may have been the bullets. Yours, Peter

I'm seriously tempted to make sense of this HTML business- given the style of the instructions given in this thread!

Regards
