Subject: Penguin: The Golden Vanity ^^^ From: Alan of Australia Date: 18 Feb 00 - 05:28 PM G'day, From the Penguin Book Of English Folk Songs, Ed Pellow's rendition of the tune of The Golden Vanity (Child #286) can be found here.
THE GOLDEN VANITY
It's I've got a ship in the north country,
And up then stepped a little cabin boy,
'Oh, I'll give you silver and likewise gold,
'Oh wrap me up in my black bear skin,
Now some was playing cards and the others playing dice,
He leaned upon his breast and he swum back again,
'I'll not take you up,' the master he cried,
He leaned upon his breast and swum round the larboard side,
His messmates took him up, and on the deck he died, Other versions of The Golden Vanity can be found in the DT. Do a search for #286.
Previous song: George Collins.
^^^ <------- OK, Own up, who did that??????
