Heard this song performed by Tom Paxton a long time ago - about a father who is wrapped around the little finger of his adorable daughter.

Chorus goes "She's My Katy, Little Lady, and I Love Her"

One line fragment is "But I'd only (something) for her, I'd only (something else)"

I think in one verse they're playing hide & seek, she forgets to keep looking & goes off somewhere while he's still hiding & waiting for her to find him.

Can anyone help?

The song is recorded by Tom Paxton on the album: "New Songs For Old Friends" (1973, Warner Bros. Records MS 2144) and also on his album: "The Marvellous Toy & Other Gallimaufry" (1984 Flying Fish FF 408). I read somewhere once that Tom wrote the song for his younger daughter Katy at that time so she would have her own song just like her older sister Jennifer (i.e. "Jennifer's Rabbit")

2. See my entry on the "e-mail address" thread re: I almost missed seeing this, had given up looking for it specifically since there had been no answer for so long; & had not happened to check this site for several days now ... and I don't always go back very far, depending how much time I have ... if I'd left my "age" setting at three days & not checked until tomorrow, I could have missed this altogether!

I've been searching for these lyrics for what seems like an eternity!

I heard this song when I was little, and I promised myself I would name my first daughter Katy. Now I'm expecting my first child, and I probably won't hold true to that promise, but it will still be lovely to sing the song for the baby.

I have a sister-in-law who is not into folk music, and I have a little niece called Jennifer when I heard Guru sing jennifer's rabbit I knew I would have to learn it.I now have a second niece (jennifers little sister) and I knew i would have to find a song for her and then I found out they have naned her katy! *big grin* Cllr

Way back when Lady Diana Spencer was engaged to Prince Charles, I remember someone singing a parody that went "She's a lady, she's Diana, and we love her" or something like that. Don't remember any details. I suppose that song is unsingable now.

The "Diana" song was never a very good song; Ian Robb wrote it when he was young and foolish. It's on his "Rose and Crown" recording which is only available on cassette.
