Subject: She's Katy-Little Lady&I Love Her-Words/music From: RS Date: 08 Jun 97 - 06:22 PM Heard this song performed by Tom Paxton a long time ago - about a father who is wrapped around the little finger of his adorable daughter. Chorus goes "She's My Katy, Little Lady, and I Love Her" One line fragment is "But I'd only (something) for her, I'd only (something else)" I think in one verse they're playing hide & seek, she forgets to keep looking & goes off somewhere while he's still hiding & waiting for her to find him. Can anyone help? Thanks! |

Subject: ADD: Katy (Tom Paxton) From: rich r Date: 24 Jun 97 - 08:49 PM KATY (by Tom Paxton c. 1973) Oh I have a little daughter, and my daughter's name is Kate. And she's every bit mischievous as a kitten on a skate, With the bandage on her forehead and the bruises on her knees, You would swear she'd fought with buccaneers on all the seven seas. For it's up the stairs and down the stairs and in the room and out, Like a miniature tornado she can blow the house about. Take an angel with the devil in the twinkling of her eye, And that's my Katy, little lady, and I love her. Now, you might believe in miracles, you might believe in saints, But you 'd never believe my Katy when she's playing with her paints, For there's red upon her forehead and there's green upon her face, In her hair and in her eyes, but on the paper not a trace. When she's in her room and quiet and there comes a bit of calm, You develop the sensation that you're sitting on a bomb. Take an angel....I love her. My Katy loves her games, you know, and thirty times a week, i find myself dragooned into a game of hide and seek. So I find myself in closets, under beds I quietly creep, And I wait for thirty minutes till my brain has gone to sleep, Yes i sit there in the closet and it seems liked half a day, Till I find a friend has come to call and Kate's gone out to play. Take and angel.....I love her. You might have heard of fathers who would dote upon their girls, Who get wrapped around their fingers by the tossing of their curls, Who respond to hugs and kisses till there's nothing they wouldn't do- Don't you believe a word of it, it simply isn't true, For I'd only jump the moon for her, I'd only jump the sea, For the hugs I get to give her and the kisses she gives to me. Take an angel....I love her. The song is recorded by Tom Paxton on the album: "New Songs For Old Friends" (1973, Warner Bros. Records MS 2144) and also on his album: "The Marvellous Toy & Other Gallimaufry" (1984 Flying Fish FF 408). I read somewhere once that Tom wrote the song for his younger daughter Katy at that time so she would have her own song just like her older sister Jennifer (i.e. "Jennifer's Rabbit")

Thank you thank you thank you to rich r for all those lyrics! ... this song has been circulating in my mind for years, so nice to have all the words now! 2. See my entry on the "e-mail address" thread re: I almost missed seeing this, had given up looking for it specifically since there had been no answer for so long; & had not happened to check this site for several days now ... and I don't always go back very far, depending how much time I have ... if I'd left my "age" setting at three days & not checked until tomorrow, I could have missed this altogether!

Subject: RE: She's Katy-Little Lady&I Love Her-Words/music From: GUEST Date: 18 Mar 03 - 07:27 AM Thankyou, thankyou, thankyou! I've been searching for these lyrics for what seems like an eternity! I heard this song when I was little, and I promised myself I would name my first daughter Katy. Now I'm expecting my first child, and I probably won't hold true to that promise, but it will still be lovely to sing the song for the baby. |

Subject: RE: She's Katy-Little Lady&I Love Her-Words/music From: Jim Dixon Date: 03 Mar 04 - 03:49 PM Way back when Lady Diana Spencer was engaged to Prince Charles, I remember someone singing a parody that went "She's a lady, she's Diana, and we love her" or something like that. Don't remember any details. I suppose that song is unsingable now. |
Subject: RE: She's Katy-Little Lady&I Love Her-Words/music From: AllisonA(Animaterra) Date: 03 Mar 04 - 07:07 PM The "Diana" song was never a very good song; Ian Robb wrote it when he was young and foolish. It's on his "Rose and Crown" recording which is only available on cassette. Allison |
