Iain sadly passed on about a month ago. RIP. I found this from Ian Green of "Greentrax", posted on 13th August 2018 :

"It is with deep sadness I have to advise you of the death of Iain MacDonald, singer/songwriter, who recorded two albums for Greentrax in the early years: 'Beneath Still Waters' and 'This Land Once Was Free', produced by his friend Dick Gaughan. Iain, who had not been in good health for some time, died peacefully in his sleep. RIP Iain".

This is my song "The Maid Of Islay" which I wrote about an old man of the sea who lived down the road from me in my hometown of Stornoway on the Island of Lewis off the North West coast of Scotland. The song can be found on my album "Beneath Still Waters" which is available as a download from either iTunes or Amazon. Good Luck, and I hope that you are able to get to grips with it. If you require help with the chords then get back to me and I will post them for you and, I will also sort out one or two discrepancies in the lyrics! I found a tape of a Thistle and Shamrock show that I made long ago. I was able to extract most of the lyrics. There's still a couple that I'm not sure of. I'm still working on the chord changes. My son listened to this song when he was a young boy - now he's off to college. He still loves the tune.

I know that there are a million songs called Jack Tar or some such thing... But I believe the name of this song that I'm looking for is "The Maid Of..."
Did ya not read the opening lyrics that I posted and noticed that they have nothing at all to do with the song that Allen posted?

I found an old tape of some Thistle & Shamrock episodes that I taped a few years ago, and on one there's a song that I'd love to add to my show.. but the tape is such cruddy quality now that a lot of the lyrics are nearly incomprehensible...

But I believe it starts something like...
