Subject: RE: music for lyke wake dirge From: Barbara Date: 25 Feb 00 - 02:05 PM Ah, I've got it as a MIDI, can you do that? Let me send it to Alan's page if it's still around. I'l come back here and post a link if we get it worked out. The biggest problem to posting the tune is that I have always heard it done as three parts, and I haven't a clue which is the melody. If we can make it work, you'll hear about it here. Blessings, Barbara |

Subject: RE: music for lyke wake dirge From: GUEST,Sorcha Date: 26 Feb 00 - 11:28 AM What I have from the Clarke tin Whistle Book is: K:Em,# L:1/8 M:4/4 E2D2E4/G4FEE2/B3AB2A2/F6F2/ G2G2F2A2/G2FEF2D2/E2G2A2F2E8// This is only a one part tune in this arrangement, but I suspect it's an EZ Beginner's. At least it's a place to start. I'll see if I can print the MIDI and see what it looks like in abc. |
Subject: RE: music for lyke wake dirge From: Sorcha Date: 26 Feb 00 - 12:29 PM Looks like "Honey" has been on the PC and ate my cookie. Fixed that. Here is what the Mudcat MIDI looks like, the time chg to 6/8 is no prob. as both defaults are an eigth note. You just insert(M:6/8) K:Em,# L:1/8 M:4/4 and 6/8 E2D2D4/E2D2E4/G6FG2F2/D#4-D3z/E2E2D2F2/(M:6/8) E2E2Eb2-E3zE2/(M:4/4)E2E2E2E2/C,#4-C,zE2/E2E2D2F2/E2E2Eb4/G3FG2F2/D#4-DzD2/E2E2D2F2/(M:6/8)E2E2Eb2-E3zE2/(M:4/4)C,#4-C,3z// Where the note is accidentaled and tied to the next note (ie-D3-D)the second note is naturaled. I do not have an ABC program, did this by hand, so I hope it's right. |
Subject: RE: music for lyke wake dirge From: Leslie Butler (inactive) Date: 11 Mar 03 - 02:53 PM Hi, me and another couple of guys are trying to do this in more or less the Fairport convention version but we can't suss the the harmony lines in the verses. (The chorus is manageable enough.) Has anyone got two or more parts written down in either ABC or even as a chord sequence? I'm afraid I can't interpret MIDI notation. (is there a guide to that anywhere?) Grateful blessings in advance. |

Subject: RE: music for lyke wake dirge From: Sorcha Date: 11 Mar 03 - 08:15 PM I have and could scan/send e mail the pennywhistle tune line. |
Subject: RE: music for lyke wake dirge From: Herga Kitty Date: 12 Mar 03 - 03:32 PM I've checked the link Malcolm gave. I discovered Collet's Folk and Blues record shop when Hans Fried was running it, in 1969 or thereabouts, and I remember him telling me that he had provided the tune that the YT used for the Lyke Wake Dirge. It was a wonderful shop, and very eclectic - it was also thanks to Hans that I discovered The Band and Moondog. Kitty PS I hadn't seen him for about 30 years, but Hans turned up at the National Folk Music Festival at Sutton Bonington a few years ago (and I haven't seen him since). |
Subject: RE: music for lyke wake dirge From: GUEST,Martina Date: 04 Feb 05 - 01:49 PM Dear Sorcha, I see that you have the penny whistle tune lines for "The Lyke Wake Dirge". I am just starting to play the tin whistle and learn the notes. I think the notes I have don't match the midi recording. Can you help me? Thanks in advance. Martina |
