Subject: RE: New Folk Club in Cornwall From: GUEST,Mike Winiberg Date: 01 Mar 00 - 06:20 PM Sound's interesting. I think I might just make it over there - all the way from Penzance 8) Tell us more about the type of music you intend to play... regards, and good luck mike |
Subject: RE: New Folk Club in Cornwall From: Kernow John Date: 01 Mar 00 - 06:50 PM Mike The music will be as varied as the guests, and on open nights of course it depends on who has the will to get up and sing. The club will be hosted by the band I play in JARYON but it is not our intention to use the club as a vehicle for the band. In fact we intend to play very little. Most of us intend to do our own thing on open nights. Marion and I like to play and sing quite a bit of traditional material, but some of the others in the band(9 strong) prefer more contemporary music. Some of the guests already booked include, Ray Fisher, Vin Garbutt, Mike Silver and Bob Fox. Look forward to seeing you. Regards Baz |
Subject: RE: New Folk Club in Cornwall From: Skipjack K8 Date: 02 Mar 00 - 08:27 AM Baz, this is a bit of a long shot, but I'm trying to track down an old mate of mine called Matthew Clarke. He'd be about 40 now, not of the tallest stature (thus his nickname Midge when we were young'uns, growing up on the Essex Coast) He used to be a ....ahem.... Hippie, last known living with a donkey and a shaved head, in a caravan on Mersea Island, Essex. I moved away and lost touch, but the word on the marshes was that he'd gone to live in or near Penzance, about 10 or so years ago. Musically he was into thrash punk, but he has probably gravitated more towards our church. Ring any bells? Skipjack |
Subject: RE: New Folk Club in Cornwall From: Mountain Dog Date: 02 Mar 00 - 09:35 AM Dear Baz, Delighted to see your post. My wife and I spent 8 months of last year in Cornwall (just up the hill from the Pandora Inn near Mylor Bridge) and we're hoping to return for 2-3 months in late spring or early summer this year. We'll be sure to look you up at the new venue when we make it back across the big ditch!

(by the way Midchuck missed his opportunity in Vermont last week ...but the folks in South Royalton now have a recording of The Helston Hal an Tow). I'll stop by when next in the UK. Thanks for your hospitality last October! Cheers, Brian |
