Subject: FERTILIZER From: Gene Graham Date: 12 Jun 97 - 01:51 AM Still looking for help on FERTILIZER....BMI lists the songs co/writers as Aubrey Freeman and Leo Teel.
AM STILL LOOKING FOR HELP ON LYRICS OF THIS CIRCA 50's NOVELTY TUNE.
While walking down the street one day I met a little fellar; When I asked him what his name was; He began to bellar; My pappy's name was Ferdinand; My Mammy's name was Liza; And so between the two of them; They named me Fertilizer. Now Fertilzer had so many other brothers He said they used all the names; While naming all the others Memory fails me along about here....
HELP! ANYBODY? |

Subject: Lyr Add: FERTILIZER (Aubrey Freeman, Leo Teel) From: GUEST,atarimega@gmail.com Date: 28 Nov 05 - 06:11 AM FERTILIZER Words and music by Aubrey Freeman and Leo Teel As sung by Leo Teel and His Teel Billies, circa 1951 1. While walking down the street one day down in Alabammy, I met a little feller who was lost from his mammy. I stopped to talk to him a while but he was kind of shy. I asked him what his name was and he began to cry: CHORUS: My pappy's name is Ferdinand; my mammy's name is Lizer; (Lizer!) And so between the two of them, they named me Fertilizer. 2. Well Fertilizer had so many other little brothers, He said they used up all the names while naming all the others, But he was really happy 'cause he drew so much attention, The kids gave him a nickname that wouldn't do to mention. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Fertilizer (Aubrey Freeman and Leo Teel) From: Gene Date: 06 Jun 11 - 12:53 PM I did call and have a long enjoyable chat with Leo a couple of times before he passed away. However, Leo's recording of the song was not the one sticking in my mind. Leo's version was a bit more raucus and rowdy. The singer in my mind had a smooth voice that reminds me of Rex Allen. And the beginning lyrics that I recalled and sang and played for many years are the way I first listed them. While walking down the street one day I met a little fellar When I asked him what his name was, he began to bellar. Still looking and hoping. Gene |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Fertilizer (Aubrey Freeman and Leo Teel) From: Gene Date: 09 Oct 12 - 12:33 AM It took me 55 years to find the lyrics and a recording of another old song from the mid 40s... It has only been 15 years since I posted the request for FERTILIZER by an artist other than LEO TEEL who did write and record FERTILIZER. And as I stated above, I did contact LEO BY PHONE before he passed away but he could not recall another artist recording it. Thanks to all who helped. Gene |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Fertilizer (Aubrey Freeman and Leo Teel) From: GUEST,grizzlebearguy Date: 17 Dec 21 - 09:11 AM Hope this is helpful. While walking down the street one day, down in Alabamy, I met a little feller who was lost from his mammy. When I asked him, Was he lost? Yes was his reply. I asked him what his name was, and he begun to cry. My Pappy's name is Ferdinand, my Mammy's name is Lizer. So, between the two of them, they named me Fertilizer. Well, Fertilizer had so many other little brothers, His folks used all the names up, just a namin' all the others. (instrumental refrain, repeat) Cool song, not one the writer can be proud of today if he's still alive. |

So, between the two of them, they named me Fertilizer. in the dining car on an Amtrak train ride on our honeymoon (1981). After 40 years .... now we know the origins of the song. Thanks for that. voyager |
