Subject: Help: iPhoto Plus for Kids Page thingy From: Crowhugger Date: 07 Mar 00 - 10:13 PM To all 'Catters with a little good energy to spare: please say a prayer or channel me and my computer some good energy. Specifically: I want to get iPhoto Plus to save a scanned image before it crashes into "illegal operation" oblivion. Not just appear to have saved, but to really be there after saving and after re-opening the program or file viewer or...get the idea? The simple goal is to illustrate a percussion instrument for the kids page - kids of all ages I might add. Dead-easy to make, great fun to play, and IMPOSSIBLE for me to get the darn picture to Mudcat Central. Maybe Bill Gates was right when he said no one would ever need more than 640k of RAM. If that's all we had, I sure wouldn't have this problem, now would I! Thank you all who can spare a moment for this (I think) worthy cause. |
Subject: RE: Help: iPhoto Plus for Kids Page thingy From: katlaughing Date: 07 Mar 00 - 10:50 PM CW- I am not familiar wiht iPhotoPlue, but one thing that comes to mind, because I do scan and send a lot of photos (as you've seen*G*), is to make sure of the *path* you are saving it to when you scan. For example, when I scan, my scanner asks me what kind of file I want to scan to, i.e. text, photo, etc. and lists the specific photo programs I have, too, which are Corel and Adobe PhotoShop. When I first was learning how to do all that, I was sending files ot places I'd never see again on my hard drive!**BG** Now, in the meantime, until one of the tech gurus gets in here, just close your eyes, put your screensaver on, take a deep breath and feel that light of inspiration flowing through yer fingertips, embracing your computer and filling it with complete compliance and understanding of your every command! Make it so and go forth!*BG* luvyakatlaughing |
Subject: RE: Help: iPhoto Plus for Kids Page thingy From: Crowhugger Date: 07 Mar 00 - 11:40 PM k/k, To be honest, I wasn't expecting to understand a single word that a tech guru might offer. I would hope to be wrong, but I'm flaggin at about 20% mast right now, just a slice of reality bread, that. Frankly, I did well with your advice - a photo file has been sent to Mudcat - plus a little energy-grabbing on my own behalf. Does the universe have a rule that you can't take what you need? Maybe this channelling/relaxation/prayers thing is a trade secret amongst the techies! I never before thought to ask. Anyhow, a sample is off to Max. If it's usable or not, now at least I can scan a couple more and his editorial whiz-dom can do up the entry in Mudcat form. (yes, I'm shouting:) I DID IT!!! Thanks, k/klove. |
Subject: RE: Help: iPhoto Plus for Kids Page thingy From: katlaughing Date: 08 Mar 00 - 12:48 AM Goodonya, sweetie! The only rule I know of is: From each according to their ability, to each according to their need, so.....take away, the Universe is limitless! 'Sides that, you already have given a lot and what we give out comes back to us many times over. Last I knew, most techie gurus weren't into the same stuff as much, but ya never know; if so, I think they keep it a secret.**BG** luvyakat |

Subject: RE: Help: iPhoto Plus for Kids Page thingy From: GUEST,Rana Date: 08 Mar 00 - 09:08 AM Hi, I use iphotoplus to scan photos and usually have had no problems. I use 100 dpi setting, and (unless I want colour) use the grey setting. I find the line one seems to lose too much on black and whites. I save the file as a .jpg which gives it a manageable size (the b/w doesn't seem to allow it to be saved as a .jpg). The photo of me on BBC is a colour jpg file scanned in the above way. Trust this helps but then simple operations never seem to be in computer land. Rana |
Subject: RE: Help: iPhoto Plus for Kids Page thingy From: Jo Taylor Date: 10 Mar 00 - 06:11 PM For web pages, and viewing on monitor only, you need have no higher than 72dpi resolution. If you want to print, use a resolution that best suits your printer. Your scanner might say it can do 1800dpi or whatever, but it will probably be interpolating (making extra pixels around the ones it can really 'see'. All this and more, and much helpful stuff about scanning and image manipulating can be found at Scantips, for beginners and experienced users alike. Hope this helps - Jo |
Subject: RE: Help: iPhoto Plus for Kids Page thingy From: Crowhugger Date: 10 Mar 00 - 07:30 PM Thanks, all. I've become something of a scan-monster. I just discovered .jpg and have sent hubby out for more colour cartridge stuff for the fun of hard copy. Look out, world...more junky little snapshots than even a photo counter clerk can stomach... I might even have to learn to use a camera properly. Or find someone who can. How many photos of a waterstrider rippling a puddle can one world endure? CH |
