There is a man named Bernie Houlahan in New Brunswick who never posts. He is shy. He is also one hellava singer and guitar picker. He also play a very respectable claw hammer banjo. Would anyone like to help me drag him out from under the sofa? He has a version of Pretty Quadroon that I like very much. Maybe we could get him to send a copy of his tape to Max...

Well, while you're dragging lurkers from under the sofa, look for the man with the Celtic harp who I know, cyberly-speaking, as Bob but who told me he has been lurking around here for a while. I "met" him through the e-mail harplist a number of years ago and he even got up at 4.30am on the day of my wedding because that was 2.30pm here in Oz, to play some harp music for us. How's that for friendship??? And, we've never met in person.

Helen

Everyone, lurkers included, is welcome to send a tape or CD to Max. Doesn't have to be professionally produced. Even one or two songs is fine.

So come on guys and gals, even if we don't know you, just send in your stuff.

Personally I love lurkers, and if they want to hide under the sofa without being exposed, that's OK too. I just recommend that they read the threads about embarrassment, and then if they still feel like lurking or want to post as a secret Guest, that's OK. It just ought to be kept in front of our minds that Guests are.... guests who should be getting hospistality. Crowhugger does a fine job with that, especially, I've noticed.

And-- maybe a thread or two titled for Lurkers would work, I've sure had a few newbies reveal themselves by startig New Members threads. Maybe this one will do the trick.

BTW, are you guys sure thee people really eist? I have heard that, in addition to thumbsucking and other childhood habits, the Secret Friend thing can really linger late in life.

You guys are real tho, right?

Kendall,

I wanted your friend to feel welcome and exposed, so I just shouted Howdy ! and flashed my monitor. Somebody had to beat 'spaw to it.

Cheers, E.S.

Oh yes Praise.

We exist.

Well if a definition of intelligence is reading small print, don't bother to contact us, that's a ruse thats been used by many a dubious member of the human race since writing began.

Now that I think of it, if Expo's a lurker-- is that really our concern?

C'mon lurkers! Don't be afraid. I've only been here 4 days and I've already posted more garbage than I can keep track of, gotten into a little trouble (and hope to get into more!), laughed hysterically with some official 'Catters and even spilled my guts in the Embarrassment thread. And I'm shy! C'mon, it's really so much fun!

No, my Secret Friend was called Betty. I haven't heard from her in about 40 years. I doubt whether she would have access to the 'net.

Oh, you mean I've been sending my self messages and didn't even realise it? *BG*

Helen

And now.....Sorcha, great line!!! But I am completely put off at the thought of El Swanno in front of his computer, raincoat open, and.....well, uh..........geeziz, I'm gonna' hurl chunk here....................

kendall's lurking friend; I'd love to hear your clawhammer banjo and your version of Pretty Quadroon. If you wait to see intelligent signs of life here before you join in, well, I suspect you'll have a long wiat!

Hey, I was once a lurker too, for a few months before actually joining in. I felt kind of unknowledgable, with all these famous and well versed folks around and me only a beginner in the world of folk music. And now look at me? People want to flog me! It's great!

So Meebo, does the word masochism have a special meaning to you?

Hey, folks,

We're talking here about "outing" and it isn't nice to do because it isn't our choice to make. Maybe I'm a prude about these things...

I say we buy 'em a drink and let him be. If we give him enough sperrits, and he chooses to loosen up, well and good, meantime we've had a pleasant drink with an interesting stranger.

Don't be in such a hurry to rush past a mystery... encounter it and savor it before unmasking.

Come out lurker wherever you are.. I am sure that you will find many people that want to meet you , to chat to talk music to listen to your playing. There are some lovely people here - give it a try.

Bernie and his darlin' carried my pal and neighbor Barbara Carns safely through a snowstorm to New Brunswick so she could find her Acadian Roots. He's a good guy before he sings or plays a note. After he plays the note, you'll want lots more of them. Notes, that is. Don't frighten the boy...he'll come out when he's feeling comfy. Joan
