Kara - creating such a listing seems like a good idea. Not only for the travelling folk among us, but also for "locals" who might not know about a good session across town. The only problems I see are in the nature of quality control and keeping in current. Don't know whether it might be difficult to "assemble" - that's where the special skills of people like Max, Dick, Joe, Karen, and a bunch of others are needed. I vote Yea!

Hello folks - I've just been talking to Eric via e-mail and invited him to the Grove Folk Club in Leeds Yorkshire on Friday eve "ST Paddy's day, anyone else who would like to come along are welcome. The Guest at the club will be Bearnard Davie, an excelent local Irish singer who has a marvolous voice, and there will be floor spots for those who would like to sing. Bearnard and his band do everything from traditional to more modern Pogues type stuff, I will sing a song I wrote a man called Anthony Kelly who died tragically exactly 11 years ago today. I have friends comming down from Scotland and there is also a little diddly diddly session goes on simultaniously in a side room in the same pub for people who would enjoy that. The address of the pub is The Grove - Back Row - Holbeck - Leeds. It is 5 mins walk from the Railway Station - past the Hilton Hotel - over the canal bridge - passed the big Halifax building and the pub is nestled between the Halifax and another large building which has just been built. The trouble with sessions is that they are very evanescent (great word that), and very local.

What is needed is some kind of gazetteer of websites providing information about particular localities.

If someone could get that together, include mine, which lists sessions and clubs in the few miles round where I live in Harlow, on the Herts/Essex border in England - www.bigfoot.com~kevin.mcgrath. I could also hunt around to find others elsewhere.

So what we would need is someone to hold and display the information, and people to hunt up the sites, or to set them up.

My impression at present is that, while there are lots of sites about individual clubs and performers and groups, there are not all that many sites carrying local listings of sessions and clubs, so there would be a lot of gaps in such a gazetteer. But I might be wrong, and in any case there are a number - and there could be a lot more very easily. It's not hard to do.

I've just put in an email to Mick Lowe's.

But I don't necessarily think specifically Irish sessions are the end of it all.

A couple of years back in Amsterdam, I could find the Irish sessions all right, but I couldn't find anywhere with Dutch music. People have told me it's the same in places in Scandinavia, and they've got a hell of an interesting set of traditions there.

well, I'm visiting thie site for the first time, looking for sessions in N.Y. Of any sort as I love to jam to all music, I'm an Irish fiddler living in Sydney. So now I'll find out if there are session listings in sites,on Sydney, the folk ones seem to change location, others -alterenative-{which are too few}tend to stay located for a while some fall apart due to lack of creative energy and motavation. but still always a thread hanging in there. Can anyone help me find sessions of all kinds{not just trad} in N.Y. thanks evelyn finnerty

It's in the ny city I'm looking for jams sessions of all kind especially, thoes of an origional kind ,people doing their own stuff and hoping to click with others who love to improvise, I;m visiting ny in may, been told that NY has everything so I though I'd be especific dying to jam man [e-mail]

I just got directed to the sessioneers web site where I encountered a bug.Lickily it was not fatal, just inconvienent. Does this not back up my case for have a Mudcat Session page.

Well, I just KNOW that ALL of you are coming to Wyoming, so here it is: Sorcha's Bunch meets the 3rd Sunday of every month from Sept. to May, with oddlings now and then, like New Years Eve. In summer we are busy gigging, so we just have a carry in picnic when the urge strikes us. Plan to have one while Allan, et al are here. Message or e mail me if you REALLY are coming to Wyoming!
