It will paste if you go directly from one window to the other. ANothe rpath that might work better is to save it as HTML and then view it in a browser and use the "View SOurce" option to see the HTML code -- copy that and paste it inot one of these thread windows. They are all HTML based, as are the Personal Message windows, so if you just paste text alone in , you lose the line breaks and other formats.

nothing seems to work for me, even tried scanning the printed page but that won't copy so I'll try longhand.

this for Daryl Cutts, Giles Cottam, and Alec Pantling, all 17/18 years old who died in a car crash 10th March, they were all from or near the small town of Clare, Nr. Sudbury, Suffolk, u.k.

CHORUS: Don't you know that some suns set fast
And just like they say nothing good ever lasts
Go now we'll kiss you goodbye
We'll hold on to your love 'cause our hearts bound to die
Go now, we'll say goodbye, from our town, from our town

On the market hill 'neath the yellow streetlight
That's where they'd meet and chat almost every night
They didn't do drugs and not much beer
Now there's 3 less but they'll always be here

chorus

They were our babies, never had their first kiss
There are no words to say how much they'll be missed
Went Sudbury for a laugh and the crack
Got halfway and they're not coming back

chorus

You bury your father or bury your mum
You never think you'll ever bury a son
People send flowers, every day,
The words are a blur when you read what they say

Don't you know that some suns set fast
And just like they say, nothing good ever lasts
Go now, we'll kiss you goodbye
We'll hold on to your love 'cause our hearts bound to die
Go now, we'll say goodbye from our town, from our town
We've lost three sons from our little town, from our town goodnight.

I cant sing very well these days and have tried to sing over the Kate Rusby version, but don't know if it scans properly.
I'd appreciate any helpful comments
the funeral is on Friday 24th March at 2.00pm GMT any prayers at that time would be appreciated.
thanks in advance
bill stephens

Bill,

I think it's beautiful, and a tearjerker...be sure and have tissues with you. I am sorry to hear of the accident. Were you close to them?

I would recommend reading the lyrics, relatively slowly and clearly, and simply--don't try to sing--it is very hard to sing at the funeral of someone that you love--it's even hard for me to write about it without breaking up--

Young people are so precious, and as they grow up, they carry the hopes of a whole community with them--I know that there are a lot of broken hearts there today--you should know that all of us, as parents, teachers, students, and friends, feel your grief and share your pain--

Subject: Lyr/Chords Add: OUR TOWN (Iris DeMent)
From: Barbara Shaw

It sounds like this was a rewrite of the Iris DeMent song:

Our Town

Iris Dement

(Chorus) G C
And ya know the sun's settin' fast
G D7
And just like they say, nothing good ever lasts
G C
Go on now and kiss it goodbye
G
But hold on to your lover
D7
'cause your heart's bound to die
G C G D7
Go on now and say goodbye to our town, our town
G C
Can't you see the sun's settin' down
G D7 G
On our town, on our town, goodnight.

Up the street beside that red neon light
That's where I met my baby on one hot summer night
He was the tender and I ordered a beer
It's been forty years and I'm still sittin' here.

It's here I had my babies and I had my first kiss
I've walked down Main Street in the cold morning mist
Over there is where I bought my first car
It turned over once but then it never went far.

I've buried my Mama and I've buried my Pa
They sleep up the street beside that pretty brick wall
I bring 'em flowers about every day
But I just gotta cry when I think what they'd say.

Now I sit on the porch and watch the lightnin' bugs fly
But I can't see too good, I've got tears in my eyes
I'm leavin' tomorrow but I don't wanna go
I love you, my town, you'll always live in my soul.

But I can see the sun's settin' fast
And just like they say, nothing good ever lasts
Go on, I gotta kiss you goodbye
But I'll hold on to my lover 'cause my heart's 'bout to die
Go on now and say goodbye to my town, to my town
I can see the sun has gone down on my town
On my town, goodnight, goodnight.

(I added line breaks - Bert)

Well, so much for formatting. It worked in my html editor but not here, although 'pre' has worked before on mudcat. Anyway, it was a copy of the original lyrics, which are not in the DT, although I think I've posted them before.
