Subject: RE: Help: 'our town' rewrite From: Amos Date: 19 Mar 00 - 11:55 PM It will paste if you go directly from one window to the other. ANothe rpath that might work better is to save it as HTML and then view it in a browser and use the "View SOurce" option to see the HTML code -- copy that and paste it inot one of these thread windows. They are all HTML based, as are the Personal Message windows, so if you just paste text alone in , you lose the line breaks and other formats. |
Subject: RE: Help: 'our town' rewrite From: GUEST,art Date: 20 Mar 00 - 08:21 AM nothing seems to work for me, even tried scanning the printed page but that won't copy so I'll try longhand. this for Daryl Cutts, Giles Cottam, and Alec Pantling, all 17/18 years old who died in a car crash 10th March, they were all from or near the small town of Clare, Nr. Sudbury, Suffolk, u.k.
CHORUS: Don't you know that some suns set fast
On the market hill 'neath the yellow streetlight chorus
They were our babies, never had their first kiss chorus
You bury your father or bury your mum
Don't you know that some suns set fast |

Subject: RE: Help: 'our town' rewrite From: M. Ted (inactive) Date: 20 Mar 00 - 11:21 AM I would recommend reading the lyrics, relatively slowly and clearly, and simply--don't try to sing--it is very hard to sing at the funeral of someone that you love--it's even hard for me to write about it without breaking up-- Young people are so precious, and as they grow up, they carry the hopes of a whole community with them--I know that there are a lot of broken hearts there today--you should know that all of us, as parents, teachers, students, and friends, feel your grief and share your pain-- |
Subject: Lyr/Chords Add: OUR TOWN (Iris DeMent) From: Barbara Shaw Date: 20 Mar 00 - 12:36 PM It sounds like this was a rewrite of the Iris DeMent song: Up the street beside that red neon light That's where I met my baby on one hot summer night He was the tender and I ordered a beer It's been forty years and I'm still sittin' here. It's here I had my babies and I had my first kiss I've walked down Main Street in the cold morning mist Over there is where I bought my first car It turned over once but then it never went far. I've buried my Mama and I've buried my Pa They sleep up the street beside that pretty brick wall I bring 'em flowers about every day But I just gotta cry when I think what they'd say. Now I sit on the porch and watch the lightnin' bugs fly But I can't see too good, I've got tears in my eyes I'm leavin' tomorrow but I don't wanna go I love you, my town, you'll always live in my soul. But I can see the sun's settin' fast And just like they say, nothing good ever lasts Go on, I gotta kiss you goodbye But I'll hold on to my lover 'cause my heart's 'bout to die Go on now and say goodbye to my town, to my town I can see the sun has gone down on my town On my town, goodnight, goodnight. (I added line breaks - Bert) |
Subject: RE: Help: 'our town' rewrite From: Barbara Shaw Date: 20 Mar 00 - 12:43 PM Well, so much for formatting. It worked in my html editor but not here, although 'pre' has worked before on mudcat. Anyway, it was a copy of the original lyrics, which are not in the DT, although I think I've posted them before. |
