Subject: Galway Races From: GUEST,dam_hoyle@hotmail.com Date: 19 Mar 00 - 10:17 PM The song starts out like this: As I was walkin' down the road, a feelin fine n happy ,o, an English soldier come up a to me, as he was fine an' happy o. If anyone knows the singer and/or band of this piece PLEASE let me know. I think they are and Irish group from/since the 80's. The tune they sing it to is the hornpipe Galway Races. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Galway Races From: GUEST,mahatmabb@hotmail.com Date: 20 Mar 00 - 10:25 PM There are a few versions of this little ditty around. The one I believe you're looking for is by the Pogues on their album "If I Should Fall From Grace with God", a truly great album by one of the finest contemporary Irish bands going (although they're not going anymore). The words you quote are from another tune ("the Soldiers Coat" or something like that) with which they begin a medley that ends with "the Galway Races". Another version is included also in a medley on the Chieftains album "An Irish Evening: Live at the Belfast Opera House". Hope that helps you out. It's one of my favorite songs as well.
