I might visit Wales next week (am not definite). Where's the music in and around Aber?
And just in case - around the Irish ferry ports and in Swansea??

Philipa, I don't Aberystwyth or Swansea but you will find a pretty good list of folk music venues in Wales at http://www.folkwales.org.uk.

With regards to the Irish Ferry ports, I don't know South Wales but in the North, there is little or nothing in Holyhead but Bangor is a convenient stopping point for Holyhead (travelling by car or by rail) and they have an Irish session in O'Seas on a Friday night. Also, the listings should confirm this, to the best of my knowledge, the Welsh (mainly folk dance music) session is still going in the Tap and Spile on a Monday night.

Being an University town, you'll find that there's lots going on in Aber. Try getting a local paper or look at the adverts in the shop windows and cafes. I was there a month or two ago, and fancied attending some of the sessions advertised, but, living 40 miles away, it's just too far for an evening visit. (or perhaps I didn't want to go THAT badly!!!)
Our next session in Mid-Wales is on Friday,28th April. E-Mail if you want more details.
Hwyl, Bron.

Aber has a good student scene, but the last time I visited, options did seem a little limited. Probably best to plan well in adavnce - which I guess is waht you are doing with this thread...

When I lived in Aberystwyth in 1967/8 there was plenty of trad Welsh music and occasional visiting artists (I remember Shirley & Dolly Collins), I expect the Welsh folk scene is probably still active. I will be in Anglesey over Easter- but you asked about music! In the days when we went to Anglesey by train there was always plenty of Irish and Welsh impromptu singing if it coincided with the ferry passengers!

You want the Coops. (The Coopers Arms)which is at the North end of the main street. I think there are one or two others, and it just depends on what night you hit, and who happens to be in. Of course, in the Easter holidays, a lot of people will be away. Some of us will be at the Pan Celtic Festival in Tralee the week following Easter. Anyone else going?

The main music night at the Coopers (Y Cwps) is Tuesday. Just down the road (25miles from Aberystwyth) there's a session in the Cwmanne Tavern in Lampeter on Thursday nights. Again though out of term time numbers here might be a bit thin.
