http://www.numachi.com/~rickheit/dtrad/ -- I found out about this one here. Most of the songs have the tunes written out, and under them you can click on "Pennywhistle notation". Very helpful!

tunes specifically for tin whistle, or tunes with tin whistle notation? if the latter, the Yet Another Digital Tradition site at http://www.numachi.com/~rickheit/dtrad/ allows you to pull up whistle notation for the tines in the DT

Irish traditional dance music is perfect for the whistle so try these sites: http://www.ceolas.org/tunes/ http://home1.swipnet.se/~w-11382/tunes/tunes.htm

The ABC versions are excellent and much quicker to download than photo-type formats (gifs, jpgs etc) and the software you need is cheapo downloadable shareware (you'll find links at the sites that offer ABC versions.)

I you want to know what these tunes can sound like go to online CD stores (eg via Chip & Fipple http://www.chiffandfipple.com/table2.html)

and listen to snatches of Joannie Madden or Mary Bergin.

Thanks for all the info folks.... found the "Yet Another Digital Tradition Page" most useful with it's penney whistle notations.

Almost any fiddle music written in ## (D) or # (G) can be used for the pennywhistle or fife, as they are traditionally played as if they were in the key of "D" regardless of what pitch they actually are in.

Dale WISLEY, Editor in Chief of Chiff & Fipple is a hoot; you can subscribe to the e-mail newsletter or join a very active whistler chat-room / discussion forum. Careful; whistling can be very addictive!
