.....or threads that I should have replied to a long time ago? I can so sledom find the time to visit here, and I've always been so eager to get right into the threads, that I only just now noticed the "active messages" notice. So I refreshed for 30 days, and checked through ALL the messages previous to the date of those replies to me, within the 30 days, for those thread titles. That was a lot of looking, and I didn't find them. There has GOT to be an easier way! Anybody?

Eluned, I think I can help, but youmight have to clarify a bit, if this doesn't help.

If you have an "Active Messages" at the top of the threads' titles, just click on that and it will take you to your Personal Page, where you can click on the subject of any message sent to you adn read it. To reply you need only click on the sender's name. To archive the messages you are done with, click on where it says "archive", (on the same line as the sender and subject).

As for finding old threads, you can click on your name,at the top of in any posting of yours, and it will take you to all of your postings. You can also do this on anyone else's name in the threads.

For finding old thread, put a keyword in teh search box and keep it simple, then set the age filter and push go. To keep track of specific threads, just click on "bookmark" at the far right hand side of the thread titles and it will post a link to that thread on your Personal Page.

Good luck!

kat

Eluned- I've had to go searching also, sometimes without any luck. What I do now is TRACE the thread. There's a "Trace" blue clicky thing at the far right of each posting subject on the main page, and another one at the very bottom of each thread. You can look at all the threads you've traced by going in to the "Personal Pages" link at the top of the main page. Try it, you'll like it. You can also "Detrace" threads you no longer want, and I suspect that doing that is a good thing: easier on Max's hard drive or something. BlueJay

Kat's right, of course. My method only works if you can plan a little, and trace the thread before it slips away...

or if you remember part of the thread name you can do a "filter search"... it's above the threads and below the "create a new thread" thingie....

put a word into the "filter" box, set the "age" to whatever you want to and hit "refresh", all threads with that word in it during that time will appear...

that is why it is important to put part of the title or lyrics in the thread title.... there are a lot out there called "lyrics wanted" etc.....

Actually, Kat, I hadn't read your first posting when I wrote about tracing. I think you read his question more accurately. You can't easily trace a thread that disappeared six months ago. And TRACE or BOOKMARK, pretty much seem synonymous to me.

BlueJay, I'm a setter not a pointer. Easy mistake to make when one uses an uncommon name. Thanks for all your help, guys!

Eluned, love that setter/pointer thing!

Actually, BlueJay, it isn't that hard to trace, if you know even a few letters of a keyword in the title of it. All of them with those letters will come up, then it's process of elimination.

Another way to see everything, no matter how long ago, that one person posted is to go to the Quick Links box, at the top of the threads, click on the pulldown menu, choose Search Forum, then hit Go. After you get there, type in their name in teh User box, and, if you are looking for something specific, that might be in the title of a thread, type that it in the Subject box. You can also leave the User box empty and do a Thread search that way, in the Subject box.

If that all seems as clear as mud, well, remember, around here Mud IS thicker than water!:-)

I've still got threads I traced years ago....

you jsut use the "add thread to tracer" which is just above where you post your new message into an existing thread......

the thread title will stay on your personal pages until you "detrace" it.......

No problem, BJ! I'm not always sure myself, with the kind of handles folks use online!

Thanks, Kat! I picked it up from reading Robert Heinlein... and rereading him, and rereading him. I've read almost everything ever written by him. He gets under the skin after a while (true immortality!).

Eluned,

Just so you know-- some frequent posters' posting history is so big it locks up when you try to find what they've posted.

(I won't name any names!)
