Subject: I've Got A Sharp Axe To Grind From: BlueJay Date: 24 Apr 00 - 05:28 PM Sorry, folks, couldn't resist. I see this has been adequately covered in RF's "Be Flat" thread. I think it's high time for another Fielding Chord Thread, if he hasn't snuck one in already! (Inspired by the GD smart thread) :>--- |
Subject: RE: BS: I've Got A Sharp Axe To Grind From: Rick Fielding Date: 24 Apr 00 - 05:46 PM Holy SHEEEIT! I'm surrounded! Suckered twice in ten minutes. Very good Blue Jay. Along with John of the hill and myself, you now fit nicely into that category, Heather calls: Too smart for yer own good"! 'Course Catspaw was the charter member long before I got here. Icould never learn a Bb (A#) from the book when I was a kid. Just didn't have the strength to do the barre. I adapted a Merle Travis approach instead. Thumb plays 6th and 5th at the 1st fret. Ring finger barres 1,2,3 and 4th at the 3rd fret. (I know it's Bb6th..just don't play the 1st string) Honest to God this is NOT that hard. I've got average size hands, and it took me about a solid week to learn. (maybe 10 straight minutes a day) It feels impossible at first but it has EVERYTHING to do with flexing your wrist, and it's a great chord. Saves you from having to do a 6th fret barre...and allows you to start playing in the key of F (which is a real good key to sing in) Rick |

Subject: RE: BS: I've Got A Sharp Axe To Grind From: BlueJay Date: 24 Apr 00 - 06:36 PM Rick- Not bad. Frees up the pinky, too, for the Seventh if you want. BlueJay. P.S. I do not have any connection to the baseball team who stole my name! ;) |
Subject: RE: BS: I've Got A Sharp Axe To Grind From: Petr Date: 24 Apr 00 - 09:41 PM I bought a flat, diminished responsibility. Youre De Ninth person to see(C) To be suspended in a seventh, major catastrophe. Its a minor point but Gee, Augmented by the sharpness of your .. See what Im going through, A to be with you.. in a flat.. by the sea. Its better with the music. (10cc) Ididnt get it at the time Petr BTW did you know that Bach wrote his name out in the music (many times actually) but notably towards the last few days of his life in the art of the fugue. The European musical scale is CDEFGAHC (H instead of B) how did he get B then, well the exception is B flat (B moll) or is it B minor. |

Subject: RE: BS: I've Got A Sharp Axe To Grind From: Cap't Bob Date: 24 Apr 00 - 10:18 PM I really don't know why there is all this fuss about cords. What you need to do is simply get an official CORD-O-MATIC and a CAPO. With these two relatively inexpensive items you can play just about any tune in just about any KEY. Ex. new sound from the "G" cord ~ place your capo on the 7th fret and your CORD-O-MATIC on the 8th fret and BINGO you are playing in the key of "C". Gee Whiz! Cap't Bob |
Subject: RE: BS: I've Got A Sharp Axe To Grind From: Jeremiah McCaw Date: 25 Apr 00 - 07:23 AM "CORD-O-MATIC"? Okay, I gotta ask (seriously, believe-it-or-not). Is that the same thing as the "EZ Chord" devise that was advertised on the TV a few years back? And if not, where might one be found? Reason for asking, I'd love to be able to bash out some chords on a 6-string, but my hands have had enough damage from arthritis over the years that forming chords isn't possible (except Em, big deal, although I do know a couple of one-chord songs:-) I do play bass guitar, and thoroughly enjoy it, but it'd be nice to be able to do SOMETHING with a 6. |
