Subject: Soldier Blue - Buffy Saint Marie From: GUEST,lee@sageps.com.au Date: 26 Apr 00 - 05:21 PM I'm after the words, but more importantly the chords, to a song from the sixties or seventies. It's called Soldier Blue and the artist is Buffy Saint Marie. Are you able to help please? Thank you in advance. Lee Williamson Perth Western Australia |
Subject: RE: Soldier Blue - Buffy Saint Marie From: GUEST,Fionn Date: 26 Apr 00 - 05:30 PM I've got the words on a BstM album. I'm not at home right now (which is why I may show up as a guest, though I am in fact registered with Mudcat) so it won't be for a week or so, assuming no-one else coughs up the lyrics in the meantime. It was quite a big hit in its day by non-pop standards, and I think it might have been used in the film of the same name. The disc I have also has another fine and angry song, called I think Moratorium. Anyway more from me in a while. |
Subject: RE: Soldier Blue - Buffy Saint Marie From: raredance Date: 27 Apr 00 - 09:48 PM This is from the Buffy Sainte-Marie web site: http://www.aloha.net/~bsm/index.htm The song was originally on the album "She Used To Wanna Be A Ballerina". A new version of it appears on her mid 90's CD "Up Where We Belong" SOLDIER BLUE Buffy Sainte-Marie © Gypsy Boy Music-SOCAN I wrote this song as the title theme for the movie Soldier Blue and it became a hit in Europe, Japan and Canada during the summer of 1971. But the movie disappeared from U.S. theatres real fast, so few Americans are familiar with it. As there's a difference between love and rape, the same differences exist in how one views their country. "Soldier Blue" is not about loving one's "nation state"; it's about loving the natural environment in which all nations are related as children of the Sacred. Chris Birkett plays guitar.
I look out and I see a land
This this is my country
Her spirit walks the high country
I can stand upon a hill at dawn
Ooo
Yes this is my country
When the news stories get me down
