Hi folks; I'm looking for lyrics to a song they used to play on KFAT radio out of Gilroy Ca. in the late 70's. The only verse I remember goes;

You might say I was quite serene when I wrote your name with the M16. But didn't I set the hostage free? Your getting bothered doesn't marry me.

Totally off-off-off chance, about eight years later, but I just did a Google search for that very song, and only came up with your inquiry on Mudcat. Big KFAT fan here, KPIG too, until we moved to the Pacific Northwest, most memorabilia lost or deteriorating, still remember that song (Larry Gross?) title, and something like "throwin' darts at a picture of your fiancee" and "Sure hope he don't hit a tree," but the rest is darkness.

If you're still out there, any updates?

If you Google KFAT radio Gilroy CA, you will find a site which purports to replay KFAT. Why not give it a try?

The song was recorded by Dayton, Ohio based Dave Gordon & Watershed in the early 1980s.

I believe it appeared on the "Falling Rock" LP. It was also recorded live at a concert recorded by WYSO-FM, and played on a tape-delayed basis. I have a mediocre-quality recording of that wonderful off-air performance.

Gordon and his wife, Kay (and members) recorded four albums on Vetco Records: "Natural Causes", "Falling Rock", "Cordoroy Road" and "Alive at Last". They also recorded a benefit album for a Dayton, OH hospital. After the group disbanded, Dave and Kay continued to play as a duo, mainly playing in the Midwest and East Coast. Gordon died September 4, 1986 of cancer.

Watershed's quirky "I've Been Riding in a UFO" was played by Dr. Demento (show #81-30) on 7/26/81.

I had a tape of that song for awhile, but don't know what became of it. Tried to work it out on guitar so memorized a few more lyrics than above, though couldn't make 'em all out.

Hi all!

How fun to find this lyric request! Just a quick hello - I am Dave's widow (remarried) and just want to let you know people all over are still playing the songs he wrote. We are trying to get together to get the rights to the songs (still mostly owned as far as I know, by another entity or two) and hope to do that. Unless these are already in the public domain, which I have to research.

The USF radio station in Tampa used to play YGBDMM back in 81 or 82. If you go to KFAT.com they are playing this great song, it comes on after one of Utah Phillips "Moose Turd Pie" stories in the loop.

Dayton (OH) radio station, WYSO, is scheduled to re-broadcast the two-hour 1981 concert by Watershed on July 26, 2020 at 1:00pm Eastern, on "The Green Place" show. It will be live simulcast on WYSO.org, and likely archived there. The performance includes "You Gettin' Bothered Doesn't Marry Me" is the eighth song in the 30-song set.

It is a wonderful performance by some very gifted musicians.
