Subject: RE: BS: Mudcatters in Elmira, NY May 5, 6 From: wysiwyg Date: 05 May 00 - 01:36 PM Mmario, I have no bbc photo for your reference. But chances are that a large, fluffy-haired lady using a walker for an autoharp table, sitting in the shade, or wearing a large hat, will sing "And whither thou stayest, I'll stay" if she hears anyone sing the line that precedes it! And then she'll knock over the autoharp stand and harp-- leaping up for a hug, so-- catch the autoharp PLEEEZE! ~Susan~

Subject: RE: BS: Mudcatters in Elmira, NY May 5, 6 From: MMario Date: 05 May 00 - 03:05 PM I'm far more likely to be singing "What do you do with a drunken Rebel?" --- |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcatters in Elmira, NY May 5, 6 From: Mini Me Date: 05 May 00 - 03:08 PM Dear Praise, Hi ! Mike Strobel calling from Rochester, New York. I won't be able to see you this weekend, but the weather will be great and I'm sure you will enjoy yourself. However, I will be performing at the Tanglewood Nature Center in their folk music concert series on the second saturday evening of October/00 in Elmira and I'd love you and other " catters " to come. Thanks. |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcatters in Elmira, NY May 5, 6 From: Peg Date: 05 May 00 - 03:10 PM hey this is my hometown!!!!! sorry I cannot be there. Locals call that place "Sullivan's Monument" as opposed to the Newtown Battlefield Resrevation, because of the stone monolisk there... we used to have family reunions and picnics there...it used to be very nice, I have not been there in many years...there is a nice restaurant nearby called Hilltop with a lovely view of the Valley...

Subject: RE: BS: Mudcatters in Elmira, NY May 5, 6 From: wysiwyg Date: 05 May 00 - 05:37 PM Mini Me, We conduct a worship service on Saturday evenings, but with this much advance notice I bet we can arrange for coverage of it! Please send me a personal message anytime you see another opportunity to get together... and please tell me more about the October Tanglewood gig!! May have to help move some tickets for that one! Peg, Awww!!! Be sure to get in touch if you are ever back in the area! Mmario, Of course it is up to you what you sing, but you never know what I may sing back. I at least will recognize your wonderful voice. Just catch the autoharp, now, OK? ~S~ |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcatters in Elmira, NY May 5, 6 From: Bluebeard Date: 05 May 00 - 10:44 PM Hey Irish Sergeant, Another Irish Sgt. here...only with the 10th Louisiana. Sorry I can't make it to Elmira with my pards this weekend, gotta work. Perhaps at a later date we'll meet off the battlefield and I'll bring my banjo and squeezebox ! |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcatters in Elmira, NY May 5, 6 From: MMario Date: 06 May 00 - 07:45 PM I got there about 11:30, met some friends, saw their brand new cannon (4 years in the making) and asked about whereabouts of Neil. This was their method. "lessee, last night when I was trying to get to sleep, I was lying thisway and he was still singing so he must be campoed right about there He was! Met up with Neil as he was eating his lunch, but he was due at battle muster shortly, so I walked through the sutler area with two of my "nieces", looking for Praise and Hardiman. About two, the battle started, and 3/4 of the way through the battle this woman says "Are you Mario?" They'd been up behind Rebel lines, and I was behind Union lines....if the rebs hadn't been advancing so fast we might never have met!

Subject: RE: BS: Mudcatters in Elmira, NY May 5, 6 From: wysiwyg Date: 06 May 00 - 09:08 PM Mmario is leaving out the delightful hug we had and the wonderfiul conversation with him and, after the battle, Neil (Irish Sergeant). Neil was too tired after the battle to play, so we snapped a photo and left the music for another time. Folks, there is nothing like meeting a 'Catter that I have ever experienced. They are as wonderful in person as they are online, and MORE SO!! But it gets even better-- when you come back to the Mudcat they are as wonderful online as they were in person, and MORE SO again! (Hi Mmario!!! Hi Irish!!!) Hardiman and I have a plan. We are serious, so hey-- starting June 1, for the summer, our house is open. If you are passing anywhere near us, plan a few extra days with us. Summer-long porch pickin' houseparty! Spare room, our pop-up or tents, or your tent, or open air, or sling yer hammock on one of the porches-- just personal-message us for directions! I will also post a thread for a virtual Mudcat Houseparty at Praise and Hardiman's, next week! So you can see what visiting in person might be like! ~Susan~ |
