Subject: RE: BS: Info on Banjo teachers in Miami/Ft. Laud From: SINSULL Date: 17 May 00 - 01:31 PM Dan, Can we assume from this that you now believe banjos are sexier than guitars? Or do you plan to cover all bases? |
Subject: RE: BS: Info on Banjo teachers in Miami/Ft. Laud From: SINSULL Date: 17 May 00 - 01:37 PM Does this mean that you are conceding that banjo players are sexier? Or just covering all the bases? |

Subject: RE: BS: Info on Banjo teachers in Miami/Ft. Laud From: Sailor Dan Date: 17 May 00 - 02:32 PM Dear Sinsull and The ANCIENT Marina. I have always thought that banjo's were the NICER instrument, and if while playing mine, someone thinks I am sexy, well thats not too bad. But seeing as I would like to graduate someday to being a banjo literate individual, I need an instructor to rid me of most of my bad habits. Yes banjo players are sexier and no I dont play the guitar. And Dave, I may have been in the Navy and still have a lot to do with boats, but I only pluck one way. Thank goodness for our female gender. Hey ancient marina where are you located??? AND PLEASE ANYONE, I STILL NEED A BANJO INSTRUCTOR Dan

Subject: RE: BS: Info on Banjo teachers in Miami/Ft. Laud From: MAG (inactive) Date: 19 May 00 - 01:48 PM If folk Club of southern Florida is still around, they have jams and sings where there are banjo players. Shorty was pretty good. I don't remember his last name -- big Hank and J Rodgers fan. The music shop in Hialeah has a buncha guys hanging around who would know -- old-timey stuff. I've been gone from there for 10 years, but there ARE banjo palyers. |
Subject: RE: BS: Info on Banjo teachers in Miami/Ft. Laud From: Sailor Dan Date: 19 May 00 - 02:11 PM Thanks Mag - If you are talking about Music Magic off 67th and 122 or so, thats where i bought the first banjo and they were unaware of anyone who was a teacher or even played one. Everyone there was a " Spanish Guitar afficiando." As far as the folk club of Florida, I will do my utmost to locate them. If you can remember what the actual name was It would be a help. But thanks for your thoughts and assistance Dan |
Subject: RE: BS: Info on Banjo teachers in Miami/Ft. Laud From: Wesley S Date: 19 May 00 - 02:30 PM Dan - Try posting a message at www.foff.org - The Friends of Florida Folk. Someone there might be able to send you in the right direction. Now do you know a good mandolin teacher in Ft Worth Texas?? Wesley - formerly of Largo Florida |
Subject: RE: BS: Info on Banjo teachers in Miami/Ft. Laud From: MAG (inactive) Date: 19 May 00 - 05:40 PM Friends of Florida Folk is definitely worth checking out; their fest is under discussiion elsewhere right now. Theytend to be active way north of Dad Co., and wear bumper stickers like, "Will the last American to leave Miami please bring the flag." That was Folk Club of southern Florida, Sailor Dan, and if Michael Stock still has his folk show on NPR, he will know if they are still around. good luck. |
Subject: RE: BS: Info on Banjo teachers in Miami/Ft. Laud From: Kristi H Date: 19 May 00 - 09:40 PM Florida Old Time Music Shampionship is a definite must. It is my personal favorite weekend of the year. They even have a beginning banjo contest(this year, sadly, there were no contestants.) As far as banjo in the Miami area, Val Caracapa, lives down south and is a fine, fine player and performer. I dont know if she teaches or not. There is a web page for the folk club of South Florida I don't know how to put up the blue clicky things but the url is http://members.aol.com/souflafolk/index.html HOpe this helps and hope to see you next year at the FOTMC, we'll be the people staying up way too late playing all night long.
