Subject: RE: Tune Req: Women of Ireland From: Peg Date: 23 May 00 - 10:55 AM There are many versions of this song out there and I believe it was covered in a thread already; did you try searching for a thread with this title? I just did a search and was having trouble so sorry I cannot help at the moment but I will keep trying... I would be interested in people's opinions of what the best recorded versions are for learning this song...I would like to add it to my repertoire but am a bit overwhelmed at how many versions there are...Ideally I would like a lyrical Irish singer's version...I think Maire Brennan (Clannad) must have done it years ago but I don't know which album to look on... Thanks, whoever can help... Peg |

Subject: RE: women of Ireland From: Mbo Date: 25 May 00 - 11:41 AM Ahhh yes! If it weren't for this album I wouldn't be here today! The tune is called "Mna na h-Eireann" which of course means "The Women of Ireland" in Gaelic. The tune was written by Irish composer Sean O'Riada. You can get the music AND the lyrics (both in English & Gaelic) right here! Ahhh, such a gorgeous tune...play it on fiddle me self...anyway, enjoy! --Mbo |
