What a howl. As the FBI *did* have a fairly extensive file on my Dad, I ran him through rather than myself, and was quite impressed with their thoroughness till the pic finished loading!

Hey I didn't know you lot were so infamous! In the UK they have similar shite-called MI 6 and MI 5 where you get a file opened on you if you sign a petition or go on demo's etc. I must be there a few times-I'll even bet Tony Blair is there somewhere from the days when he had some sense. But you won't have an Internet site that lets you find out that kind of stuff for people in England or the rest of the currently more or less United Kingdoms.

Rick, sorry to disappoint you, they are not as inefficient as you might wish to believe. You must not have been listening to the news in Canada of the past week. The Canadian Government is not supposed to keep files on us but they do and they have been selling the information that they collect. It has been causing a bit of a kufuffel in the House of Commons and the press.

Governments DO collect information. Unfortunately, there's not a whole heck of a lot to do but laugh, and remember that you never know where information you give will end up.

Case in point... I wish I could remember the source, but I do remember the details... Seems that the Selective Service mailed a notice to a young man's house reminding him to register on his 18th birthday. For non-US types, the Selective Service is the Draft Board, more or less. All male citizens are required to register at 18.

This would not have created any stir, except that the young man who was so reminded didn't exist. Apparently, two brothers who lived there had invented the young man to take advantage of Baskin Robbin's Ice Cream Birthday Club. Turns out that the S.S. office (Now THAT'S a scary abbreviation, all things considered) had been buying their name lists and using it to track when young men turned 18...

Gotta be careful out there... S.S. has apologized for the error, and states that they will no longer use that list. Nothing was said about further use of other lists...

Gee, thanks! I've always wanted to see my FBI file, but have been too cheap to pay the fee, which as I recall was something like $20.00. You really CAN have hard copy sent to you, but I don't remember where to get the correct address. This is really SO much more convenient!

It's all great fun but in a way it is a bit scary thinking they have that sort of control. I'll have to check and see what they have on me. The bizarre thing is, having been in the military everybody has my fingerprints already so I guess a career in crime isn't in the cards. (That's a Joke J. Thanks Met. Actually I was joking. My guess is they DO have stuff on me. For a year and a half I lived in a house that took in American draft resistors. I'd be very surprised if every resident and a lot of visitors didn't have their pics filed away somewhere. Doesn't bother me in the least.

In another house I lived in, there was a semi-pro drug dealer on the top floor. I used to see a guy in a car parked a few doors down, often reading a newspaper. Figured he was probably RCMP.

I just feel that if any Government wants to keep tabs on you THAT BADLY, they're going to. My philisophical hero Quentin Crisp (who must have had a HUGE file) said that if the Government was bugging your "loo" you should just learn to "urinate with style".
