Subject: online music lessons From: Mooh Date: 05 Jun 00 - 10:30 AM Advance thanks for your assistance. I have been very disappointed in what I've seen of online music lessons, and I think I suggested in a thread of tips for pickers that most such things should be approached with caution. However, as I'm always on the hunt for student resources, and I'm not so sure that I think of everything when I write lessons myself, I was wondering if anyone knows of GOOD lesson sites. Any kind, any style, preferably free, any level, will do because much such knowledge is transferable. Does anyone know? Peace, and thanks. Mooh. |

Subject: RE: Help: online music lessons From: Mooh Date: 06 Jun 00 - 10:24 AM Dulci46, That's one of the better sites. I'm not surprised that this thread hasn't attracted much attention, so I've been thinking, what if I were to create a folk music lesson site? I do not have the computer expertise but my daughter does. Any suggestions out there? Mooh. |

Subject: RE: Help: online music lessons From: SeanM Date: 06 Jun 00 - 12:28 PM I've run across a few good tinwhistle sites, but not guitar... then again, I've not been looking for guitar. www.sessioneer.com is the site that I picked up some good tips off of... they might have some good links. M |
Subject: RE: Help: online music lessons From: GutBucketeer Date: 06 Jun 00 - 02:00 PM The banjo sites: Exbanjo.com and Kafiristan.com really helped me. The latter was the home of the DownNeck Gazzette. Patrick Costello and his Dear Old Dad prepared a Real Audio clawhammer workshop every month for over a year. This was combined with the text and graphics to really help me get started. They are on hiatus now, but the workshops are still available for download. It looks like they are also going to redo them to add video. great concept. JAB |

Subject: RE: Help: online music lessons From: John in Brisbane Date: 06 Jun 00 - 07:48 PM Hi Everyone, I've been having some cyber chats with Joe Offer and I've promised to re-invigorate a Mudcat Project I'd started a couple of months ago. Just a few days ago I advised Joe that I'd received permission to use some graphics from an Australian music site. My concept is fairly basic and is aimed at providing a tutorial in basic notation - largely for Mudcatters who may wish to try their hands at submitting tunes to Mudcat MIDI's.
I have some HTML to do to get the graphics right but should have this complete in less than a week. I'll probably post it to the Forum but if there is anything you would like to use (or discard) please feel free.
Have also partly written some scripts about Chord Construction, Circle of Fifths and Transposition but I haven't tackled the hardest part which is getting good quality graphics.
Some time ago I posted a Link to a page of finger picking patterns for guitar. I'll see if I can find it.
Regards, John |
Subject: RE: Help: online music lessons From: Helen Date: 06 Jun 00 - 09:20 PM Someone in a Mudcat thread posted this site: Gary Ewer's Easy Music Theory http://www.musictheory.halifax.ns.ca/ I've checked out about half of the lessons and they are very godd - clear, simple, logical - for the foundations of theorety side, maybe not so much for composition or the specific applications of music. Well worth checking out in your search. Helen |

Subject: RE: Help: online music lessons From: Amergin Date: 07 Jun 00 - 02:06 AM SeanM, thanks so much for that link! Now I think I will dig out my whistle and actually learn out to play it, instead of butchering any song that I attempt. Amergin |
Subject: RE: Help: online music lessons From: Mooh Date: 07 Jun 00 - 09:54 AM That whistle link is great! Worth a look even for non-whistlers. Mooh. |

Subject: RE: Help: online music lessons From: GUEST,Lane Date: 17 Dec 01 - 09:46 AM I've been kinda impressed with the Riff Interactive Lick of The Day - its accessible from www.harmonycentral.com. Of course, they are selling their CD version - but they are pretty cheap... |
