Hey, I just went to Backporch Music to buy some CDs and saw that they're going out of business at the end of the month. I'll be sorry to see them go - does anyone know the owners and why they're closing shop?. All CDs are 25% off, so go get some good deals.

This is bad news! I don't know why. Jim Hanmore has run a wonderful store. Maybe with the expansion of Chapters. Amozon, and other e-businesses even the small dedicated person can't survive. People I know - through the net initially - used to own a small folk store in the States but closed because they needed an income after a big chain opened up. Seems the same with video stores - I was happy when a small one opened up opposite a Blockbuster - all kinds of foreign movies, lots of Brit stuff as well but on going by it last week, the shelves were now empty.

Gee, Rana, I guess you and I are the only Mudcatters who know about Backporch Music, which might explain why it's going out of business.....

Actually I've also ordered stuff from them and know about them, I just can't answer your question so hadn't written anything. I think I'll be seeing Jim in a little over a week from now so if nobody has an answer by then I'll try and get one to you.

Thanks, sophocleese. I was expecting that even those who didn't know why Backporch Music was closing would speculate, hypothesize, commiserate, etc., ultimately leading to thread drift and a discussion of leather vs macrame guitar straps. Not this time I guess! ;-) Tell Jim Hanmore he'll be missed.

Perhaps its bad neighbours that are having an effect in which case we could apply the ideas in that thread to this one...
