Subject: RE: Help: Blues Arrangements for Fiddle From: Malcolm Douglas Date: 17 Jun 00 - 09:04 PM Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown, though best known as a guitarist, is also a fine blues fiddler; it would be worth your while tracking down some of his (probably, earlier) records. Malcolm |
Subject: RE: Help: Blues Arrangements for Fiddle From: Matt Woodbury/Mimosa Date: 17 Jun 00 - 09:33 PM You could also check out Papa John Creech. I had one recording where he sang, then said " I think I'll play my fiddle now" |

Subject: RE: Help: Blues Arrangements for Fiddle From: Stewie Date: 18 Jun 00 - 03:45 AM Mc, you won't regret it. Both Old Hat releases are among the best vintage blues and old-timey yet reissued on CD. --Stewie. |
Subject: RE: Help: Blues Arrangements for Fiddle From: Hardiman the Fiddler Date: 18 Jun 00 - 05:38 PM I recently found a book, Blues Fiddle, by Julie Lyonn Liberman which seems like a good starting place, with a lot of info in the index/discography section. Hardiman |
Subject: RE: Help: Blues Arrangements for Fiddle From: GUEST,Suzy T. Date: 19 Jun 00 - 12:41 PM Another great blues fiddler that I just discovered is Eddie Anthony. He made a bunch of sides with the blues singer Peg Leg Howell. The Document label has released 2 CDs of Peg LEg Howell and there's LOTS of really cool fiddling. Also, don't forget the Mississippi Shieks! Lonnie Chatmon's a great and very influential fiddler. Julie Lyon Lieberman's book is excellent too. Have fun, Suzy THompson |

Subject: RE: Help: Blues Arrangements for Fiddle From: Jon W. Date: 20 Jun 00 - 12:58 PM Yay, Mississippi Shieks! "Stop and Listen" is my favorite blues tune with a fiddle. Charlie Patton also collaborated with a blues fiddler (Henry something?) on a few tunes (one with "Alabama" in the title). Also Blind Blake recorded with a fiddler if I remember right. |

Just thought I would second that point. The fiddle playing on these blues tracks really does sound good. |

Subject: RE: Help: Blues Arrangements for Fiddle From: GLoux Date: 28 Jun 06 - 11:04 AM "Charlie Patton also collaborated with a blues fiddler (Henry something?) on a few tunes" That would be Henry "Son" Sims. -Greg |
Subject: RE: Help: Blues Arrangements for Fiddle From: GLoux Date: 28 Jun 06 - 12:01 PM Old Hat has changed their Old Hat website. Now they have links to some catalog/retailers like Elderly and County Sales from which you can order their recordings. |
Subject: RE: Help: Blues Arrangements for Fiddle From: GUEST,Jim Date: 29 Jun 06 - 11:59 AM Try to find an album by Stuff Smith and Herb Ellis. I know this sounds like a jazz album, and it is, but stuff has a wonderful bluesey tone, both in his vocals and his fiddle playing. Well worth looking up. |
