I'm looking for a tear jerker named 'Poor Little Joe' which is a story about a waif on the streets of New York.
one verse is something like this:
As I was wandeering through New York's gay throng
I spied a poor boy who was singing a song
But though he was singing, he wanted for bread
And though he was smiling, he wished himself dead

Does anyone have the lyrics or any other information about a song my grandmother use to sing called "Poor Little Joe".

I can only remember the following part:

While strolling one night Through a cold winter's throng I saw a young fellow who was singing a song Although he was singing, he wanted for bread Although he was singing, he wished himself dead.

Cold blew the blast, down came the snow He had nothing to shelter him, noplace to go. No mother to guide him, in the grave she laid low Cast out in the cold night was poor little joe.
