I posted some words a little while ago, Nick has supplied me with some more words, I hope someone can supply the rest.

I first heard the song performed by two Canadian girls at Bracknell folk festival in 78/79 ish. I've been onto the festival people who don't have programmes for those years so I can't find out who they were. However the song sticks in my mind even after all these years.

One fine summer day, a woman went walking
Down by the river so gentle and free.
And there she espied a beautiful sailor
Sitting alone in the shade of a tree.
She boldly stepped up to this young man
"Pray tell to me from whence you came,
For my eyes have not feasted on such beauty
And my never do so again."

Oh, Madam, I am a lonely sailor
Recently returned from sea...

It goes on whereby she takes advantage of him he goes on to lament this fact saying that his parents would be shamed to know what he had done. Something along the lines of

And he arose and cried in anguish,
"Mother, I am quite undone.
And you'll hang your head in shame and sorrow
When you hear of what I have done."

I seem to recall a verse after this saying

So she's lifted him up in both her arms
And kissed his lips so tenderly...

After waiting for over 20 years I would dearly love to find all the words, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Actually, the above was Pene's method of marking when he's done editing. But this sounds like a very interesting song, and warrants another refresh.

Umm. I haven't heard or read this song as far as I can remember but I wonder, if you switched the gender it might be more familiar to some. The words that are there could easily be altered and could have been altered by a couple of female singers to suit what they were performing.
