Subject: Rus/Ukrainian folk:Vot mchitsa troyka...
From: GUEST,Karolina, Eire@post.pl
Date: 27 Jun 00 - 05:45 PM

Hi, 'tis Karolina here, from Poland. Can anyone help me? I'm (desperately) looking for the lyrics to these Russian folk songs: Polyushko Polye, Tyomnaya Noch, Vot mchitsa troyka pochtovaya, Chernobroviy chernookiy and to the following Ukrainian songs: Misiac na nebi, Viyut vitri, Iz-za gori kamiannoy, Ne schebechi soloveyko, Razpriagayte hlopci koney. I know I'm asking for much... I would appreciate if someone provided me with the words to the Ukrainian songs - I don't have a clue where I should search for them... As for the Russian ones, I was looking for them on the www.alla.net,but to no avail. Where else can I go? I don't mind having the lyrics in Russian/Ukrainian language! Thanks!!!

Pene Azul, many, many thanks!!! But...I've got a problem! My computer can't read the font of Polyushko and other songs...I'm not sure why, it can read some Russian fonts. Why not this one? I tried to use the "russify your computer" guide, but I didn't manage, as I'm not very good at using computers...(Shame on me!)I've got the Windows98 version. What should I do? Can you help? Karolina

It looks like you have to install the fonts from that page (click) and open the lyrics pages in Netscape. It worked for me in Netscape but not in Internet Explorer. I can't tell if the lyrics are correct, but the font did appear.

If you have trouble installing the fonts, post again and I'll help you.

Many thanks, John! I've been to the site, it's great, I've found there a great number of songs I like. As for the Vot mchitsa troyka, they've got a version of lyrics different from what I was looking for. The song I know begins like this: Vot mchitsa troyka pochtovaya po Volgie matuchkie zimoy...That's not the version they have on their site! But I found Razpriagayte hlopci koney,a nice Ukrainian song. Thanks!!! Pene Azul, I've got two problems. First of all, I don't have Netscape, only Internet Explorer. Next, I've downloaded the fonts, but they're in a zip file, I can't open it! Don't know which programme I should use to open. Well, I told you that before, I'm hopeless with computers... Help!!! Karolina

Knock knock, anybody there who knows the songs I'm looking for? :)
Pene Azul, you are not discouraged by my complete lack of "computer knowledge",are you? :)
Coming back to .zips, I know there are some pages which offer different programmes for free, I'm going to look for such pages as soon as I have more time. Or maybe you could link me to them?
Perhaps I should change the name of this thread to PROBLEM PAGE...
Troublesome Karolina

Here (click) is a free .zip expander. You can download Netscape here (click). Netscape is a pretty large download. I'll see if I can figure out how you can get the lyrics otherwise. I looked for the other lyrics with no luck, but I'll try again.

I'm not discouraged at all. We all have much to learn.

Thanks, Pene Azul, thanks!!!!!

Sorry for my two-day absence.

Pene Azul, thanks for refreshing the thread. Thanks for the lyrics to Polyushko ( I got the .bmp file you sent me!!!). Thanks for the link to the R.C.S. Page, I've been there, grand experience!!! It'll take me some time to go through all the things they have there; so far I've found the lyrics to Tyomnaya Noch ( a beautiful song )and Vot mchitsa troyka pochtovaya (they got the version I know) and HUNDREDS OF OTHER SONGS I know and love. Thanks!!!

As for the Ukrainian songs, I still haven't found any, but I'm not so worried now that I found so many other songs!!!

Grateful Karolina

Karolina, Here is what happens when you don't check the Mudcat for a few days. Your favorite subject "Ukrainian Folk" gets brought up. I have tons of sheet music of Ukrainian Folk. My husband is fluent is the language. Send me a list of what you want and I will try my best. Unless someone else is interested, you can E-mail me directly. Sandra

Hi Karolina!

Misyats na nebi, ziron'ki syayut
Tikho po volnam choven plyve
U chovni divchina pisnyu spivae,
A kozak tchue – serdenko mre

Tsya pisnya lyuba, tsya pisnya myla,
Tse pro kokhanya, tse pro lyubov
Yak my lyubilys' tai razvishlysya
Teper zyshlisya na viki znov

Oy, ochi, ochi, ochi divoch'i
Temni yak nichka, yasni yak den'
Vy zh mene ochi plakat' navchily
De zh vy navchilys zvodit' ludey

If it's quite the thing you were looking for. If you'll give me some time (about a week) I think I would be able to write you the rest of the lyrics (could you jis' specify which of them you still need).
