Subject: RE: Oh, Red! lyrics req From: Dave T Date: 19 Dec 98 - 08:02 AM Oh Red - written by Chester Burnett (a.k.a. Howlin' Wolf) I have the recording on a 2 CD set by Chess, "Ain't Gonna Be Your Dog - Howlin' Wolf", Chess/MCA, CHD2-9349. If I can sort out all the lyrics (sometimes difficult) I'll post them in a day or so. If you're a Howlin Wolf fan check out the CD. By the way, I searched OLGA and couldn't find it there, but you might try some other Howlin' Wolf site. Dave T |
Subject: RE: Oh, Red! lyrics req From: Dave T: Lyrics Post Date: 19 Dec 98 - 09:02 AM OK, so it didn't take me a day or so. Hope this is the song you're looking for Ruslan. I've placed the chords in the first verse. It's recorded in B flat (damned horn sections!), but I've just used Roman Numerals, so you can play it any key you want. Subject: RE: Oh, Red! lyrics req From: Ruslan Date: 28 Dec 98 - 07:11 AM Thank you very much, Dave T! That is what I need. I've got HW version of this song but only on LP (with damned horn sections). Also I've got Sonny Boy Williamson version (Document's CD) & Speckled Red one (Blues Roots LP). There is a Washboard Sam version of this song, I think. They sing it not very clean. Best regards! |
Subject: RE: Oh, Red! lyrics req From: Jim Dixon Date: 04 Nov 07 - 06:06 PM I have listened to several sound samples of Howlin' Wolf singing OH RED, and I am convinced that, at least part of the time, he is singing "what you gon' do?" rather than "what should I do"; and "break 'em down" rather than "break on down." Not that it makes much difference. |
