Subject: Lyr Add: BOULEVARD OF BROKEN DREAMS (Dubin/Warren) From: Joe Offer Date: 01 Jul 00 - 04:16 PM Dang! Not gonna make the two-minute record on this one, either! -Joe Offer- Hi, Harpy's Dad! Harpy and I decided we were all neighbors in Detroit in the early 1950's. My mom went to Cooley High in the 30's. BOULEVARD OF BROKEN DREAMS Words by Al Dubin and Music by Harry Warren recorded by Tony Bennett This version did not chart but in 1934, it was a # 6 hit for Jan Garber Sung in the film "Moulin Rouge" by Constance (no relation) Bennett (Latin rhythm) I walk along the street of sorrow The boulevard of broken dreams Where gigolo and gigolette Can take a kiss without regret So they forget their broken dreams You laugh tonight and cry tomorrow When you behold your shattered schemes Gigolo and gigolette Wake up to find their eyes are wet With tears that tell of broken dreams Here is where you'll always find meThe joy that you find here you borrow You cannot keep it long it seems Gigolo and gigolette Still sing a song and dance along The boulevard of broken dreams Here is where you'll always find meThe joy that you find here you borrow You cannot keep it long it seems But gigolo and gigolette Still sing a song and dance along The boulevard of broken dreams |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: The boulevard of Broken Dreams From: GUEST,The Navigator Date: 01 Jul 00 - 04:29 PM That was quick!. Harpgirl, my daughter, and Nathan are here for the weekend. I don't remember your mom by the name Offer, but I went to Redfor High, and graduated in Jan 1941, so we were contemperaries ( sp? ) I had a lot of friends at Cooley. I lived Near the Deroit Golf Club, on Linwood near 6 Mile. Most of uw who lived in this area went to Redford, Cooley, or UofD High. Thanks for the fast response. The saloon was in the basement on Cass Ave. |
