Being based here in the UK, you guys are always up & singing when I'm long in my bed! Does anyone out there ever hold one of these events in the UK afternoon/evening at all? I'd love to listen in...

Hi Tarcey, Aine is in the process of taking Hearme over from me but this is basically how it has been wroking.

The Sunday night session which tends to start around 12:30am for us established itself early on and I guess can be considered a "fixed" event.

Other than that, people have usually just announced their presence in the room in a Mudcat thread and others have dropped in.

There has never been any reason why a Hearme session should not be started at any time of day but for some reason, perhaps because many UK people are still on metered access, nothing much has happened during what would be reasonable hours for most of us over here.

Oddly enough Alison (from Australia) did try to start one up at I think around 3:00pm our time on a Saturday afternoon to try to get some of the UK people in. I was one of I think 2 UK people that attended although a few Americans joined in...

The time zone used in the British/Irish Isles is shared with or close to a fair bynch of other countries, so there's no rerason to think of this in parochiaol terms:

Hey, I'm at home in the mornings, from 8am to almost 1pm, then from 1:15 to 1am on most days. If you ever want to start something up that's good for the UK folks, I'll be glad to drop in!

McGrath, I the langauge problem is a factor in some of the contries you have mentioned but I know we do have English speaking members in at least some of these countries.

This makes it even more mysterious to me. Can you offer any explaination as to why so little happens in Hearme during the hours that one would think were best suited to residents living in these time zones?

Remember Mbo, it's no good giving a time without a time zone, when you're in the global village.

I think it's partly a reflection of the type of Internet connection people have - a lot of peoiple are still paying for their phone access on a cost per minute basis, and that means off-line browsing is how they do it.

But it's also probably to do with other things, not feeling really at home and comfortable with these magic boxes we use, and so forth. I have me doubts if I'll get into these HearMe's in too much of a hurry.

But we'll see.

Most evenings from 8pm - 10pm (BST) would suit me, as would saturday afternoon. If other people can post their preferences, maybe we could come to a consensus as to a good time (sorry - forgot that we don't get consensi in mudcat...)

Anyway, you know what I mean. Lets agree a time and get started.

Yeah, Kevin!! We would love to hearYOU and it is really easy. Your songs have already been sung in there!! So, c'mon in...the water is fine. Since I work at home, I could probably join in whenever, too. I have a great little device which Alison sent me by email which is a very quick and easy way to check other's time zones. I would love to join in with a UK HearMe - and I have totally free access now. Unfortunately my hubby works in the same room as the computer in the evening, so during the day would be better for me at the moment (I'm off work sick).
