Subject: sad news From: kendall Date: 06 Jul 00 - 10:35 AM It makes me very sad to report that Yodeling Slim Clark died last night. He was a good friend for 50 years and will be missed by many. He was a member of the Cowboy Hall of Fame, and was recently honored to have a spot on the Walk of Fame in Nashville Tenn. He won many awards for his yodeling. He was also an artist who painted very realistic pictures of wildlife. In 50 years I never heard a bad word about this man. |
Subject: RE: sad news From: catspaw49 Date: 06 Jul 00 - 12:13 PM Thanks Kendall......He used to do a few appearances on Emery's early AM show when I lived in Nashvillle. Saw him once on the show with Ranger Doug from Riders in the Sky who had that kind of worship look on his face. Here's a little info page - CLICK HERE Spaw |

Subject: RE: sad news From: M. Ted (inactive) Date: 06 Jul 00 - 12:58 PM I discovered him in a cutout bin, when I was in college--I loved his voice, both yodelling(which I diligently copied) and not, and adopted a lot from his guitar style, because it really fit well with the music that I was playing at the time, which, in addition to his stuff, included other traditional cowboy and similar tradtional stuff. For years he was a just a name on a record label, and, a few years back, I was delighted to find that he was still around and still making music--he was on my list of people that I wanted to meet thank-- |
Subject: RE: sad news From: SINSULL Date: 06 Jul 00 - 01:13 PM Kendall, I am sorry you lost a good friend. I am even sorrier that this has come at a time when you are having some health problems yourself. Celebrate his life and his accomplishments. Not many of us earn a look of "worship" for our talent. Smile when you remember that you had the privilege of knowing him. Time is "just one damn thing after another". I for one am counting on you to help provide good times. SS |

Subject: RE: sad news From: katlaughing Date: 06 Jul 00 - 02:03 PM But not yet, Amergin!**BG** Sorry, Kendall, I know this kind of loss hits hard, esp. after so many years of friendship. I am sure your friend wouldn't want you being too blue and lonesome right now, because he'd like you to stay healthy, so keep focused on your heath and let the grief come slow, after you are better. luvyakat |

Subject: RE: sad news From: kendall Date: 06 Jul 00 - 10:23 PM 50 years is a long time. But, I'm grateful to have known this man. I've never known a finer human being. |
Subject: RE: sad news From: SINSULL Date: 06 Jul 00 - 10:41 PM Kendall, I don't know you very well but I do know that many here feel the same way about you. Take a few deep breaths and figure out what you need to do. If you have to be at the funeral, make that decision and go. For myself, I wish you would keep your medical appointments and put at least one stressful event behind you. Your friend's family will appreciate your support a week from now possibly even more than today. In a few weeks the real mourning begins and by then others will have moved on. Feel free to tell me to mind my own business. SS |
Subject: RE: sad news From: Seamus Kennedy Date: 07 Jul 00 - 12:49 AM Kendall, it gets heaped on sometimes, doesn't it? Sorry for the loss of your friend. As a yodeler of sorts myself, I was familiar with his yodeling and also that of Montana Slim, Bill Staines, Elton Britt, Ranger Doug, Roy Rogers and Rex Allen, not forgetting Rosalie Allen or Patsy Montana. There was a fellow from New England I believe called Roberts - I've lost his first name - who was a great yodeler too.Your friend's passing leaves a big hole, but he's now with the other greats in that Yodeling Pantheon. All the best. Seamus |

Subject: RE: sad news From: SINSULL Date: 07 Jul 00 - 09:58 AM Kendall, I have always found that helpful people giving me advice are a pain in the ass. Mainly because they are not advising but telling. And for all your protesting, I believe you and Spaw are clones of each other! Semi-lovable curmudgeons. SS Running for cover. |

Subject: RE: sad news From: kendall Date: 07 Jul 00 - 06:23 PM Can you believe that the death of this nationaly known Maine icon is not even mentioned in the local news broadcasts? If it had been some drugged out, head banging raucus and roll geek, it would have been all over the damn tv. |

Subject: RE: sad news From: Karolina Date: 07 Jul 00 - 09:00 PM Kendall, we do not know each other yet as I'm sort of a newbie to the Mudcat. Still, please accept the warmest and kindest feelings I'm sending to you now. You've got so many friends here. Take comfort in them whenever possible. And let me be your friend, too. Subject: RE: sad news From: GUEST,Marymac, sans cookie Date: 08 Jul 00 - 12:40 AM Kendall, Please accept my support re: your health problems, and my condolences on the loss of your friend and fellow Maine-residing singer. I'm glad I got to meet and spend time with you at Old Songs. I would have to pretty much agree with Sinsull that you and Spaw are much alike-only i would say you are both TOTALLY LOVABLE curmudgeons! However, I don't think I can let you get away with saying you're above all that "gonads" stuff, either! After all, who was ably filling Max's shoes as sexy ribber at Old Songs? And you know I have a thread of yours bookmarked, where you talked about exactly what you were seeking in a traveling companion, and it wasn't knowledge about art history!!! Face it, you're as human as the rest of us!!! I hope you can feel that the support of all of Mudcatdom is there for you, in both your grief and in your healing. Stay in touch. Love, Marymac |
