Subject: Fifty Years From Now From: GUEST,Håvard Date: 20 Jul 00 - 10:41 AM Looking for a song called "Fifty years from now". It's not in the DT.
I've only heard Scottish singer and songwriter Dick Gaughan sing this song... he might have written it himself (it definately has his touch). It's not on his homepage however. |

Subject: Lyr Add: FIFTY YEARS FROM NOW (Dick Gaughan) From: The Shambles Date: 20 Jul 00 - 07:13 PM FIFTY YEARS FROM NOW
It's hard times in the cities and it's hard times on the land,
Fifty years from now, maybe fifty years from now,
The government has done its best to bring prosperity,
Fifty years from now, maybe fifty years from now,
The butter's piled in mountains. We're producing far too much,
Fifty years from now, maybe fifty years from now,
We can't go on building hospitals; we need the cash for guns.
Fifty years from now, maybe fifty years from now, Dick Gaughan. Celtic Music From the CD 'Call It Freedom', Celtic Music, 28 Mercer Row, Louth, Lincolnshire, England. 'Phew!' |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Fifty Years from Now From: GeorgeH Date: 21 Jul 00 - 05:57 AM It's also a song which Gaughan characterised as being a "studio" piece rather than something he likes to perform live. But before you rush off to spend money with Celtic Music do remember that they're the immoral bastards who are sitting on the rights to a large slice of the UK's folk music heritage, AND repeatedly refused requests to either re-release Nic Jones' back catalogue or release them to anyone else to do the same (they said they were only prepared to talk about selling the whole Leader catalogue!!). Dick parted company with them a while back. G. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Fifty Years from Now From: GUEST,Håvard Date: 21 Jul 00 - 08:09 AM Thanks for the lyrics... Gaughan being his own subtle self! Somebody sent me the song as a mp3-file, and I don't plan to buy the album. (As I've bought a few of his other albums, I hardly feel bad about that)
btw anyone going to Tønder? Dick Gaughan and Brian MacNeill are teaming up there. Should be a crack! |
