I can make the Forum refresh on any interval. This means that the page will reload say once a minute, so you can keep an eye on postings close to real time. Anybody interested?

Once I get the membership idea done, you will have a choice on all of these things, including the ordering of the messages, the colors etc. It'll be a different mudcat for everyone. That way we don't all need to agree. Also you will be able to tag threads that you want to follow and will be alerted via the pages and/or email when a new post has hit it. Should be soon.

Max,

I just got done trashing the reverse order threads, so I should be more refined here. Options can be great as long as they are options. There is some merit in the ability to chose a refresh interval. Would it defeat AOL's timers? It would be worth it just for that. My only concern is that the refresh not kick you out of a thread you are currently enjoying and boot you all the way back to the top. Keep innovating but let us choose.

Membership is free. All is does is identifies yourself to me so I can integrate some customization. I am tired of taking requests and changing things only to get complaints from others. I will plant a cookie or you will identify yourself when you arive, and you can design your own site. You can choose how to sort things, colors of things, what things you like to follow, etc. Those of you who don't like change, don't worry, you can choose to leave your version the same as it always has been.

During membership registration though, you will have the chance to give a donation. Purely optional and will not effect your status. The primary focus of the fund raiser is to become a faster and more reliable site.

Max, I don't think you'll have much trouble getting donations. I've only been on... Lordy, has it only been two weeks?... and I've already had $50 worth of fun.

Hi Max

THanks for all of your hard work on the improvements.

However I'm having a problem. When I first connect to the site (it'll be in the 30 days bit) the threads haven't been updated, some may have been but certainly not all. For example the last two days I have replied to threads which I know should be nearer to the top the next time I go in........but the next day they're not.

But if I then change it to 3, or 7 days they are fine and things have been updated.

Is this a common problem, or is my theory that computers hate me being proved again.

Paranoid? Me? No way.

Slainte

Alison

Just because you're paranoid doesn't necessarily mean someone's not out to get you.

Max, in one of your messages I detected a hint of frustration with our conflicting desires. Take heart - I think we're all really pleased with all that you've done with this forum lately. The ascending/descending sort options and the little menu at the end of each message (post/top/home) are wonderful.
Of course we'll have growing pains and some of your innovations won't meet with universal approval, but I think all of us would say you're just grand!
.....but I'm still trying to figure out how you got that sentence in upside-down last week. I figured out it was a GIF file, but I haven't quite figrued out how to do it quite as neatly as you did.

Instead of seeing the upside down sentence, I got an icon that indicates there is a graphic there. Is there a way of opening it?
