Tomorrow night (way short notice)Wednesday July 27 Sean Tyrell will be joining us as the guest singer. Sorry, I just found this out. If anyone's in the area & are considering ever seeing him this would be the type of setting where Sean shines brightest, among other singers in a relaxed layed back low keyed room where singing is at the center. It's on the 3rd floor of Paddy Burke's, Portland St, downtown Boston, starts around 9:00-9:30 & last as long as you'd like (or at least till closing). Barry

I went to the singer's club on my June trip to the East Coast after hearing about it on the 'Cat from Barry and Peg. What a fine experience and bunch of folks that was. A friendly, intimate setting, away from the bar noise, almost like being in someone's living room. The singers can be found sitting around a table, going around with the songs in a singers circle. The songs were unacompanied (though I don't know if that's how it's normally done or if it just reflected who was there that night) and after each song, there was a little time for some background info on the song and some friendly banter. The friend I was with doesn't sing, but enjoyed listening and was made to feel as welcome to the circle as anyone else. A great evening and well worth your time if you can make it there.

Please forgive this aside...

I acquired a cd named "Best of Boston Singer-Songwriter Showcase Volume 1", a promotional recording. Some very good and worthy songs! If this is typical of Boston, I'd say it's worth checking out anything and everything available.

Peace, Mooh.

Sorry about the above blank.

Hi Seamus, I'd be happy to pass on your happy hellos to Sean, Shay Walker I'm sure will also be happy about hearing from you.

Hi Chanteyranger, it was as much our pleasure to have you join us. Hope you can make it back some day soon, maybe you'll come again for the next Mystic festival?

Hi Mooh, I don't have any idea of who's doing what on that CD but I'm glad it gave you a high opinon of us northeasters we're really just a bunch of blowhards.

Barry

Words can't really discribe how spellbinding Sean was last night, you'd have to had been there. Each & every song impacted the listener (at least me) to such a degree that in order to finally go home I had to I had to slap myself silly to break the trance I was put in. He says he'll be heading for NYC then on to Washington D.C. Good luck to any of you who get to hear him.

Hi Seamus, he sends his greeting & thanks for your asking of him. There was some mention that in the near future you'd be by this way yourself, maybe around New Bedford way, do tell.

All the best, Barry

I have to second Barry's opinion. Listening to Sean last night was like watching an artist paint a picture. Sadly, I had to be away before the second set, so I did not get to see his whole programme. If you get a chance to hear this wonderful musician, do so. He was definitely captivating.

Oh, my, words cannot express how magical and enchanting was the spell cast by this very laid-back and unassuming performer...

the two Yeats poems set to music were my favorites...but so much of it was amazing, from the off the cuff poems to the powerfully-rendered Gaelic songs...

Mr. Tyrrell seems at times a rough-hewn, seen-it-all singer, at other times a flawless being come from faery's most sparkling reaches...he deftly melds comic ditties and heart-stopping ballads from one moment to the next... I highly recommend hearing him live if you can manage it. We were infinitely blessed to have him all to ourselves in that small room...

peg, still entranced...

Barry. I'd fill you in with specifics re that cd, but I'm two hours from my home, waiting for the rain to stop over Georgian Bay so that I can go back out to my beach chair, beer and snooze. If I can remember when I get home in a few days to look, I'll list some of the artists and songs for you. Peace, MoohTooh (Mooh elsewhere).

Hi Barry!

Sorry to miss Sean Tyrell and all of you last night. You'll be pleased to know it was the first meeting of the New York Traditional Singers' Circle. 18 attended despite pounding rain (which, I guess, you did not escape). I am now moved into my place in CT, so I look forward to spending some evening with you in the future. I'll be just under 2 hours away.

All the best,
Dan Milner

Barry, thanks or passing the hello on to Seán. I hope I don't have a conflicting gig when he's in D.C, so I can get to see him. Thanks for asking abou my gig in New Bedford. I'll be at the Heritage concert Series at the Rotch-Duff-Jones Museum on August 18th at 7:00 p.m. Any catters in the area, come and say "hi". All the best. Seamus

Hi Dan good to hear & know your club's up & running, now to only get down there & nice to know you're a little bit closer & we'll get to see & hear you & Liam's sister in-law more often.

Hi Seamus, thanks, I'll keep an eye on that date but it is a bit of a drive. Have a ball reguardless.

Barry
