Subject: How many mudcatters are there? From: Ed Pellow Date: 27 Jul 00 - 07:19 PM Just wondering... I'd reckon that I recognise about 50 or so names as regular posters. Maybe another 50 or so who sound vaugely familiar. Another 100 or so who post once in a while, and lots of people who only post once or post as a guest... Even so (and my figures may be wildly out) it doesn't make for very many. Is the mudcat this small? Simply curious Ed |
Subject: RE: How many mudcatters are there? From: Joe Offer Date: 27 Jul 00 - 07:34 PM Hi, Ed - I used to have a dropdown menu that listed all the Mudcatters. It got too big and took too long to load, so Max changed it to a search box. There are over 6,700 registrations listed. Of course, some of those are bogus or duplicate identies, and some are people who have posted only once or a few times. I suppose if you looked at Mudcat Resources in the "Quick Links" dropdown menu, you could get a general idea how many people are active. Many people who drop in to look up a song or ask a question don't register. A while back, Max said we get a million "hits" a month. -Joe Offer- |

Subject: RE: How many mudcatters are there? From: Catrin Date: 28 Jul 00 - 07:45 AM Don't forget that famous HearMe couple 'The Chucks' - Big and Mid Catrin |
Subject: RE: How many mudcatters are there? From: Mbo Date: 28 Jul 00 - 07:51 AM But, Catrin, they're not a married! Unless Mid's wife LittleChuck wants to come hang around Mudcat...And I think that Midchuck would find it rather upsetting that Bigchuck was sharing his refrigerator! --M |
Subject: RE: How many mudcatters are there? From: wysiwyg Date: 28 Jul 00 - 07:57 AM I didn't mean to hijack the thread. But now where else could I share this little item as Hardi and I went off to bed last night? Two tired, creaky people. Had been helping each other overcome various fresh aches and pains, etc. all the last two days... so I said, honey, is this that vow, in flexibility and in decrepitude? Then we went on to discuss that when couples renew their vows, they should re-write them or add new ones to reflect their changing perspectives on the true nature of marriage. So I am curious what new vows you other married folk might add to the classic richer/poorer, sickness/health, better/worse.... such as, "In songwriting and in blocks".... See, it IS about music. ~S~ |

Subject: RE: How many mudcatters are there? From: Bert Date: 28 Jul 00 - 01:39 PM New vows. How about "as long as it's fun" |
Subject: RE: How many mudcatters are there? From: Susan of DT Date: 28 Jul 00 - 08:29 PM I thought Bert was going to report some real numbers. The last I heard Max say quite a while ago was 150,000 regulars (not necessarily at the forum - lots use the DT without stoping in the forum) who came by twice a week or so and 3 MILLION hits a month. Of course I'm not sure how these things count hits - as we go from thread to thread, how many hits are recorded for one visit? |

Subject: RE: How many mudcatters are there? From: Peter T. Date: 29 Jul 00 - 10:56 AM I think a much more interesting number is the number of threads per day, which -- apart from the mistakes and the crap -- is a good indication of active participation by different people. It is rare that someone starts more than one post a day, and multiple postings even out. If you look at today -- which is not even a work day -- there are over eighty active threads before 11:00 a.m. EST. We are now getting 200 threads a day quite regularly. A year ago it was 100 (I kept a tally for awhile). Before that it hovered around 50 for a couple of years. There is a doubling time of about a year, which is (a) ecologically interesting; (b) noisy, which explains some of the griping; (c) and great. yours, Peter T. |
Subject: RE: How many mudcatters are there? From: big48mama Date: 29 Jul 00 - 11:55 PM How many mudcatters are there? What kind of question is this? Like how many hammer dulcimer players are there, mountain dulcimer players, autoharp players, etc. It doesn't really matter does it as long as one has someone or many to share their hobby with. Life is too short to spend along with your hobby. This (Mudcatter business) is new to me and I'm one of those some time (mudcatter) people. The times I've started a topic, it's been real interesting the information that's out there among you people. Like the one answering someone's thread on the "lost song lyrics" her mom or grandma sang to her. And the one about the "Cruel Mother". Many of you are so knowledgeable in the wonderful realm of folk songs. Keep up the good work, people. Folk music is just about the most wonderful music there is. |

Subject: RE: How many mudcatters are there? From: Joe Offer Date: 17 Jul 01 - 09:22 PM Hi, John - well, a woman who registered recently was #9248. There are a number of $%^&* Mudcatters who have multiple memberships, even though they're not supposed to. We have over 9,200 memberships, but I don't know how many individuals that adds up to. -Joe Offer- |
