There doesn't seem to be an up-to-date thread about this.
Anyone going?
I am almost certainly going, but I haven't got any mudcat ID.
Bron.

In Illinois, the crop won't be ready until September. But we can sure get corn cheap this time o' year. So some must be ready now. We've had good rain and it looks like a bumper crop around us, but there are terrible drauth areas not too far away. And my heart goes out to the states that are on fire even as we speak.

All the best,

Art Thieme

Well this amazing, Llanfair. If anyone wants to know what they're missing, I posted a link to the Cropredy site in the UK festivals thread a few weeks ago. (Sorry, no time to do it again now.) Having said that, I still don't know whether we'll be making it - we've a lot on this summer, so it's going to have to be a last-minute decision.

My uncle might be there, I can't be as transatlantic fare is well out of my budget. I haven't talked to my uncle in years but he was the one introduced me to Fairport Convention. I should send him a letter and thank him.

Hi Bron! According to this earlier thread, sledge will be there in a mudcat t-shirt. I will also be there with my mudcat t-shirt , but I don't intend to wear it all weekend, particularly if it's hot and sunny as hoped!

Do say hello if you see the t- shirt. I've not been to Cropredy before either so don't feel able to suggest meeting places etc.

Looking forward to it immensely!!

Noreen

Why not rendezvous at one of the stalls - say Hobgoblin, for the sake of argument? I'm sure they'd be glad to act as a dead letterbox if we all missed each other, especially if they think they might sell someone an Overton Low D or something. If I make it - see earlier post - and unless someone suggests a better idea, I'll check there at 2.30pm both Friday and Saturday (which leaves the mornings clear for sleeping, towpath walks etc. If any of us turn up and get no takers, we can leave a message with the stall to say we're around and will be back at some other specified time.

Just a suggestion.

Ah, great, I was beginning to think there was no-one else!!!
I saw the other thread, Noreen, but I wasn't sure I was going, then.
Fionn, that sounds as good an idea as any! See you soon, Bron.

Fionn- good plan. Will bear those times in mind. I intend to spend time at the hobgoblin stall anyway, so that's a good suggestion (I'm typing with one hand as my concertina's still attached to the other!) Will you be identifiable as a mudcatter or will I just feel the sparks fly as you approach? :0)) (sorry)

Look forward to seeing you, Fionn, Bron, sledge, sophocleese's uncle..............

You've probably all set off by now. Ah, what the hell... It's not likely I'm going to make it, but if I do, I'll wear my blue t-shirt with Hungary or Budapest on the front, at least some of the time - rendezvous times at least. If I don't - enjoy!

I'm home, physically and emotionally exhausted, but I wouldn't have missed it for the world.
Firstly, I met Noreen. It was far too hot to stand and chat for long, but she's a lovely lady whom I can't wait to meet again.
Secondly, Martin Carthy and Dave Swarbrick played "Sovay", and Swarb did "Hens march on the Midden" I couldn't see very well, but my son reported that he was playing from a wheelchair, and was being given oxygen whilst performing. He had to stop from time to time, and the other fiddlers onstage covered for him. The performance was seamless, and I cried.
Meet on the Ledge. the final number by Fairport, also had me in tears.
It has been a wonderful experience, and my son was as excited and affected by it as I was.
We're definitely going next year!!! Bron.

Ah,Meet on the Ledge... They never follow that! Have you followed the band from way back, Bron, or does the song have that effect even on newbies who may not know its tragic associations?

Anyway, thanks for the debrief - just wish I could have made it. It's good to hear that Swarb's still going as strong as he can. Not bad, considering the Daily Telegraph published his obit a year or two ago. Was Richard Thompson there? I didn't see him specifically billed this year, but it would be unusual if he didn't make it.

Your description of Noreen is ample reward for any small part I might have played in bringing you together. There's still a chance I'll get to your October bash, so maybe see you then.

Well its over for another year, three of the quickest days in the calender.

No Richard Thompson this year, but we did have jerry Donohue and his Daughter, Martin Allcock, Swarbs who was in much better shape than last year though still frail. Ian Mathews showed up as well for a good part of the final night.

Robert Plant was the only disappointment as far as I was concerned.

Didn't pick out either Noreen or Llanfair (sorry) but I did meet up with an old school friend which was great fun.

Back to bed now for a little dreaming of a super weekend.

Sledge, I'm glad you felt the same way about Robert Plant. I wasn't impressed, and I also was disappointed in The Incredible String Band, who didn't appear to have their act together at all!, Unlike Albion Band, who were spot on!!!!
Sorry you didn't make it Fionn, I'm sure we'll meet up soon. Bron.

That critique strikes a chord Bron. Don't know whether this is sacrilege, but whenever I saw ISB, it was a big disappointment. (Only three times in all, so I've just kept assuming I was catching them on bad days.)

I've seen the Albion Band a few times, in various guises, starting with Larkrise to Candleford at the National Theatre, and always thought they were hugely more professional (in the best sense) than you're entitled to expect of folkies.

Hi all, Cropredy was indeed wonderful and passed far too quickly. Glad for the confirmation of my opinion of Planty: glad to have seen him but wouldn't choose to do so again. I left part way through his set to fetch jumpers and coffee/hot chocolate, much to my friend's amusement- he thought I should have plied him with stimulants other than caffeine while watching such a Rock God!! :0D

I much preferred the stage manner of all the other performers. Fairport were of course brill, including the resurrection of Leonard Cohen's Suzanne. Stackridge were great fun, and I had never seen Show of Hands before- I'd love to see them again, soon.

An extra treat was the surprise appearance during the Fairport set of Roger Hodgson, and a set of Supertramp hits which they'd not rehearsed together! Wonderful stuff.

Lovely to meet you Bron. I walked round on Sunday with my Mudcat t-shirt over my shoulders as it was too hot to wear it, and enjoyed hanging out at the hobgoblin stall. I didn't return on the Sunday as I'd just got word that my father-in-law had died, so we were packing up in the afternoon ready to leave straight after Fairport. (Pa-in-law had been very interested in the much anticipated weekend and wouldn't have wanted me to miss the main event.) Hence I won't be around the Mudcat Café so much for a while, occupied elsewhere. Catch up with you all again soon, I hope.

Noreen
