This August Bank Holiday (25th-28th), it will be possible for us to visit the 28th Wadebridge Folk Festival, in Cornwall. I am always a little wary of travelling over Bank Holiday week-ends, so I would be grateful to hear from anyone who has had experience of this festival and can help with any information.

It looks about the right size (for me), with some good folk performing but I was wondering more about the informal sessions and joining in stuff?

Sorry Shambles, we always go to Towersey for the August Bank holiday which is in Oxfordshire and therefore not on a main tourist route like Cornwall.......if you can, leave on Thursday and don't come back till Tuesday.....your liver won't thank you but you car might.

Avoid the A30 as if it were the road to hell - which for much of the summer, as it is the main route to the West Country - passing through Dorset, Devon and those other places - it could possibly well be!!

Travelling at stupid o'clock in the morning doesn't help either, because then you get all the grockle shells (caravans) who have started early because a) they take three weeks to get anywhere and b) they are universally despised by all other drivers, and that includes Mr Red Velvet Steering Wheel Driver.

LTS - who used to live on the main road through Dorset....

Hi Shambles!

I came across this thread while I was searching for The Agricultural Irish Girl (once a good description of my mother). My wife's group, The Johnson Girls, flew to England to sing on the programme at Wadebridge. She had no real difficulty driving and had a great time at the festival. Did you get there?

All the best,
Dan

We did thanks and I did notice that there was a Milner on the programme. Did try but unfortunately did not manage to see The Johnson Girls, at least not knowingly. Glad they enjoyed it and hope that they will be coming back?

The weather was kind and the travelling was no problem at all. It was just the right size, nice town and we had some fun. There was a really good session on the Saturday night, I think? Sitting down all night was a bit of a struggle as we had hired bicycles and pedalled to Padstow and back in the morning. Having not ridden a bike for many years, the old bottoms were a little bruised. We met some old friends and made some new ones and will probably return. See you there?

Hi Shambles!

Bob Conroy and I will probably be going to Warwick at the end of July, from there over to France and then back up to Saltburn. I think Wadebridge is probably the weekend afterwards so it would make sense. I guess we just have to see whether we get invited. Bob and I sang at the folk club in Bodmin this time last year and had a ball. They are a GREAT singing audience!

The Johnson Girls are on a tight schedule between jobs and babies but they may be going to Sidmouth.

I will be over for about 7 days at the end of the month. If I don't run into you then, maybe we'll get together in the summer.

All the best
Dan

The organisers of Wadebridge are looking for new blood on the festival committee. There is a meeting on 20th of this month so I'm going along. Will post if there is any news.
