The original version of "It must be love" by Labi Siffre.

It's sickly sweet but irresistable.

That development of Eensie-Weensie, with the inspired spoof chorus is great!

the balfa brothers playing "Les flemmes d'enfer" is one of my all-time favorites.

whenever I am depressed and listen to this cajun stuff the Balfas shove some peppers up my a** and make me dance in the chair. no chance of staying depressed when someone drowns his sorrows in a good portion of cajun-fiddling.

Subject: Lyr Add: THE EENSIE-WEENSIE SPIDER^^^
From: Bill D
Date: 24 Aug 00 - 06:58 PM

Oh, SURE...this one is REALLY uplifting!

THE EENSIE-WEENSIE SPIDER

parody of the Mary Ellen Carter
Words: Bob Blue et al
Music: Stan Rogers

The eensie-weensie spider went up the water spout
Down came the rain and washed the spider out
Out came the sun and dried up all the rain
And the eensie-weensie spider climbed again
She wouldn't let the elements distract her from her goal;
The purpose of her struggle was embedded in her soul.
Now, see the sun shine down on beasts, on women and on men
And like the eensie-weensie spider, rise again!

Chorus:
Rise again, rise again!
She will not let misfortune keep her from doing what she can,
So whether your legs number two, or four, or eight, or ten,
Be like that eensie-weensie spider, rise again!

This eensie weensie metaphor's a lesson for us all -
We cannot be defeated if we rise each time we fall,
And if you think this story's one you learned too long ago,
Then think about some other ones you know.
You know the myth of Sisyphus, and you know Jack and Jill
It's such a potent image going up and down a hill,
So every time you fall, or lose a lover or a friend,
Be like that eensie-weensie spider: Rise again!

Chorus

Perhaps you think this allegory goes a bit too far
Climbing up a pipe is not like reaching for a star
But whether its's a water spout or mountain that you climb
You've come this far; indulge me one more time.
It could be said that each of us climbs up a water spout.
The downward pull of gravity is not what it's about:
The upward pull of hope is what will save us in the end.
Be like that eensie-weensie spider: Rise again!

Final Chorus:
Rise again, Rise again!
Never let misfortune keep your from doing what you can,
And whether your legs number two, or four, or eight, or ten,
Be like the eensie-weensie spider: Rise again!

Was a very good parody, Mbo. Remembering hearing it on the Mudcat Radio too. Very well done.

Since Mbo has taken us to task several times lately for our curmudgeonly ways (ie - songs we hate, etc.), I thought we should have a thread of positive songs to soothe his kind, young heart. :-) You are only allowed to say, "Yes! I love that song too!" in response to postings on this thread. Those feeling the urge to hurl at the mention of a particular song should post those comments on one of the already-started "worst song" threads.

Three basic categories occur to me at the moment -

1) Songs that uplift you every time you hear them. A couple of songs that I would include here are "Forever Young" and the Moody Blues' "Vintage Wine" (and if anyone has the chords for VW, I'd appreciate them being posted).

2) Songs that are not positive in the sense of happy-happy-joy-joy, but which convey the necessity of caring for each other. Example - "There Were Roses."

3) Songs that are not necessarily happy, but that feel SO GOOD to play or sing that they always give you a sensual thrill. A lot of blues songs come under this category for me - with the way you can slide your voice around the notes. "Wild Women Don't Have the Blues," "Perfect Stranger."

All right, have at it!
