Subject: Lyr Add: BABES IN THE WOOD (Noel Brazil)^^ From: Ezio Date: 05 Aug 97 - 02:58 AM This one should be missing in DT BABES IN THE WOOD Babes in the wood, walking thru' snow Big bad wolf at the window Not much choice in the matter now Some must lead, some must follow Touch can mean distance to some people Touch can mean prison or be like a cage I always thought that life could be more simple Especially in this day and age They got the time, they got the need The world's getting weird, the wolf's running free But that's another story, this is their story Babes in the wood, eager and keen Soft as the fern underneath them Wet to the skin from their own hot glow No more wolf at the window Touch can mean distance to some people Touch can mean I own you forever and a day If only life could be more simple Especially in this day and age They got the time, they got the need The world's getting weird, the wolf's running free But that's another story, this is their story But touch can be a blessing to other people Touch can bring blossom to things that decay I think life should be that simple Especially in this day and age They got the time, they got the need The world's getting weird, the wolf's running free But that's another story, this is their story (Recorded Mary Black) ^^ Click for related thread^^Added to DT Oct 98. -JRO- |
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Babes in the Wood (from Mary Black) From: GUEST,Becky Date: 18 Nov 11 - 11:12 PM Here's the first part of this song, sung by my mom when I was a child Oh don't you remember a long time ago These two little babes, their name I don't know Were stolen away on a bright sunny day And lost in the woods, I've heard people say The sun went down The moon showed no light The two little babes They laid down and died And when they were dead The robins so red Took strawberry leaves And over them spread That is all of this song I have ever known |

Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Babes in the Wood (from Mary Black) From: michaelr Date: 19 Nov 11 - 12:37 PM The song Mary Black sings was written by Noel Brazil, probably in the 1980s. Other than the title, it's completely unrelated to the trad song. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Babes in the Wood (from Mary Black) From: GUEST,Ben Gabus; My Mother sang the song while Dad Date: 07 Dec 14 - 02:07 PM Oh Don't you remember a long time ago when two little babes, their names I don't know were strolling along on a bright Summer's day And were lost in the woods so I've heard people say And when it was night how sad was their plight The sun, it went down and the moon gave no light They sighed and they sighed and they bitterly cried Then the poor litle babes they laid down and died And when they were dead the robin so red Strawberry leaves over them spread and all the night long they sang this sad song Poor Babes in The Woods poor Babes In The Wood Back on a tennament rooftop, back in 1940, in the lower East Side my Mother and Father brought us 5 children up to the rooftop and played the violin while our mother sang to us. This was my favorite of her songs. I'm now 83 (Today is my birthday) and I can still see and hear her in my memory. They have both passed on but the left some beautiful memories. |
