Lyr Req: The Abigail + Blowed and Torn

I am interested in getting the lyrics to "The Abigail", "Here's a health to the company", and Blowed and Torn". (From what I hear of this place from my father, I'll probably have 5 versions of each of these within 24 hours) Thank you...

Hi, ShadowMonk, here are a few tips that might help:

generally, you will get a better response if you put anything you may know of the song in the title of your thread, such as "Lyr Req: The Abigail." Make one for each song. It just saves time for some folk who can only be in here in between work etc. so they can quickly see if there is anything they can help with.

Also, if you go to the DigiTrad Lyrics Search box and type in keywords, you may find what you are looking for.

You could also enter the keywords in the SuperSearch box which is right at the top of the threads and see if there have ever been other threads on any of the songs you mentioned.

Actually Kat, I guarentee you know him. I've heard your handle mentioned before. You know Bill D, don't you? Well, I'm his college bound son. Thanks for all the tips. Dad tells me a lot, but he sort of assumes that since HE knows how it all works, I should automatically know too. With help from people like you, I'll get it sooner or later.

About the only thing I could find to help was Blowed and Torn is by Tom Wisner, and is recorded on Chesapeake Born, Folkways FTS 32410, LP (1979).

Who's that Irish fellow who writes a song about the need to go back to school to upgrade etc but by the time the song is nearly finished he says where it all got him was being the driver of the old school bus? He also composed that beautiful song about Sadako....that girl who tried to make a 1000 paper cranes before she dies (of radiation from the bombing of heroshima). Anyone else know...help me out here.

Is this the ship the song's about? I found a reference in "The Brief History of Virginia". The only song I know about Abigail is short and sweet:

350 killed by surprise uprisings at plantations in Opechancanough's attempt at ethnic cleansing; Jamestown itself spared by warning from Indian boy, Chanco. Colony goes from 1,400 to 1050.

1622-12-20: The Abigail arrives, not only bringing no food to replenish the losses from the massacre, but infecting the colony with a shipload of diseased survivors poisoned by one Jeffrey Dupper's contaminated, "stinking beere." The resulting plague and starvation reduce the colony to 500, as survivors desperately await the Abigail's companion-ship, Seaflower.

Thanks for the attempt Ian, but not quite. :) Rabbitrunning, I first heard the Abigail at the Royal Mile pub in Wheaton Maryland. I believe the chorus goes like this:
